How long for Utah to issue?

Just Sent In Application

Hi Guys...

Resident of Wisconsin here.

First post so I thought I'd say "HI" and to let you know I took my Utah Firearms training last Saturday, June 20 and sent in all the paperwork on Monday, June 22. My instructor did say it would take a while, but I did hear the BCI added a few more people to try and improve the turnaround time.

Since I have my Florida, Minnesota, and New Hampshire permits, I am not in that much of a rush but it will be interesting to see how soon I do receive it. Basically, I just wanted a backup to my Florida license just in case there are any renewal problems when that permit comes due in a few years. Have been hearing real horror stories regarding trying to get the Florida permit in a timely manner although renewals are down to a few months.

Plus... you can never get too much training. My training was 6 hours classroom and 1 hour range and cost $100. They did the fingerprints right there and I had an extra passport type photo when I submitted my application for my Florida Non-Resident Permit.

Good luck to all who have applied for Utah and I hope you all get them in a timely manner.

Well that would put me at tomorrow then. That would be nice. Several of us at eating breakfast at Rail Road Pass Casino at 9AM in the morning before heading out into the desert to sight in my new .22 build. It would be great to come home to find my Utah permit in the mail box.

108 Days...Finally

I started this thread a month after I aplied and on the day I got my Nevada. Finally, after 108 day I got my Utah Permit in the mail.
I'll be sticking around to see how long it takes others to get theirs. Good luck and thanks to everyone for their contributions.

My renewal was quick.

  • Mailed 6/25/2009 USPS priority w/signature confirmation.
  • Delivered and signed for 6/29/2009
  • Renewal issue date 6/29/2009.
  • In my hand yesterday evening with about 45 days to go on my previous Utah CFP which will be going into my safe along with my other expired CCWs.

I am taking the Utah Safety Course next week and hope to have all my papers in soon after for my Non Resident. Anybody know how long the wait is now?

Be prepared for a 90 - 100 day wait. They're processing applications a lot faster, but they're also receiving a lot more applications.

Wait Times are Getting Better

I sent in my Utah application materials on June 20 and had my permit September 5 (the permit was dated August 31 as the approval date), so that makes it about 11 weeks.

It was a lot quicker than when I appllied for my Florida permit which took exactly 90 days from the day I sent it in to the day I received it.

For what its worth, my New Hampshire permit took two weeks and my Minnesota permit took four weeks.

My Minnesota permit was my first CCW permit and I was relatively painless to get secure. I followed this permit with my Florida CCW permit and my NH permit shortly thereafter cause I wanted to be able to carry in New Hampshire if I decide to get some training at the SIG facility. My Utah permit is basically the same as my Florida in reciprocity (it adds the State of Washington), but due to the problems Florida has been having in running renewals through, decided to hedge my bets to make sure I was covered in the States I was planning to carry in.

Long answer... but I got on a roll. Sorry.

Sent my application in around the 20th of August, the charged my card around the 25th of August. Permit was issued on the 9th of October and arrived today 10/16/09. I little less than two months.

I just got my in state UT permit in the mail today.

BCI cashed my check on 9/6 thats only 52 days!!!!!

Was not expecting it until early December.

Seems as if they are moving a little faster at least right at this moment anyways.

BCI added six people a few months back -- just to deal with the avalanche of applications. They are getting pretty close to the 60 days mandated by Utah code.
