How did it feel when you first started carrying?

Well, if you ever watched and liked the movie ‘The Money Pit’ with Tom Hanks, then I would affectionately say “two weeks”. By the way, I chose this particular movie title for its relevance to this hobby...

Neal, When I first started carrying on a daily basis I felt as everyone was staring at me. It was almost like they knew I had my .45 acp at my 3 o"clock but after about a week or so, that feeling went away now Its part of my everyday attire, good luck

Ya know its odd, I just got my permit today.. after living 6 years in Nevada and being a general gun nut.. I finally did the whole thing and got it over with. Open carry is common where I live so I never really felt a need to do it until lately..

I figured that while I was out today I would feel as if the eyes of the world were going to be on me, but I did not. I walked around like nothing else was different, except I was carrying. Did not feel out of sorts at all. Oh well.. heh who knows.. I am sure I might feel strange about it later but right now it didnt really freak me out at all.

I still find that when I carry, I avoid any situation that could have any possibility of trouble. I will put up with a whole lot more and walk away when Im carrying.

Im even a more curteous driver when I carry.

THANKS FOR THOSE TWO COMMENTS. i FEEL LIKE A MUCH SAFER PERSON WHEN i CARRY.
Only one thing that was bad about learning a new skill and then entering the public again. I was trained as a Nationally Registered Emergancy Medical Technician. for a while it was un-nerveing to think that at any minute you could be called upon to SAVE a life. Resturants and malls were off limits for a long time.

The very first time I carried, I went into the local convienence store to buy some milk, and who should come up right behind me? Yup, a deputy buying a snack. I figured 'Oh well, at least I'm legal'. I'm sure he could have seen the butt through my jacket but he didn't say a thing. I've never given it a second thought since. I did have someone pat me once by accident, as they were trying to get by me, but they didn't say anything either. So many people carry cell phones on their belts these days, that bulges don't bother people as much anymore I guess.

It made me much more aware of my surroundings. It also made me realize the responsibility I had to avoid any kind of trouble and to not get into any kind of arguments or confrontations with other people. I guess you could say it made me a better citizen as weird as it sounds.
Absolutely true ! I stay away from roadrage situations; even though there are many in Vegas . God Bless .

I just wanta kill...kill...KILL...KILL...

(No, wait, that's from an old Arlo Gurthrie song, I believe, just confused here.)

Kinda cool, the other day was talking to a local LEO who is a martial arts student of mine, and in discussing our response to BGs, he said he wasn't really worried since he carries a gun. Then he paused, looked at me, and I pulled my vest aside to reveal my piece. He just shook his head. Cop: 1, Citizen: 1. The way it should be.

I don't remember how it felt when I first started carrying, but I know how it feels now: right.
Great post ! I'll bet Arlo would't believe his name would be quoted to that ! Times change good moral codes don't ! God Bless .

Don't you love our gun rights in Nevada ! I did the same as you . Six years in Henderson without CCW Permit ( what did slow me down was a disability ) . Glad I had it a week later across from Green Valley Highschool when 2 gangbangers wanted to rob me . I went back in barbershop and waited . Lucky for them (and me) they did not come in the shop . did not sleep that night. I did not expect that to happen that soon . You never know in this crazy life God Bless.I]
