How Can You Own A Gun And Be This Ignorant Of The Law?

That's why we have 2 ears and 1 mouth. We all should listen twice as much as we talk. And Those who talk, Don't Do! Those who Do, Don't Talk!

It seems most people would rather stay within their comfort zone even if it means being wrong. It takes a lot of energy to constantly question what you thought you knew as valid. It also tends to alienate friends and family.

R. Regan said "Well, the trouble with our liberal friends is not that they are ignorant, but that they know so much that isn’t so."

If you care to play the game say to her "I must be mistaken in my understanding. Can you cite/find the section of the law that states this so I may educate myself. I can't seem to find it myself, please help:confused:".

While I was at work one night I got into a conversation about guns W/ a co-worker. At some point in the conversation she stated to me that in Colorado it is illegal to posses a loaded firearm anywhere but at a gun range on the firing line. She stated this as fact w/ 100% conviction. She also informed me that in Colorado you must store your firearms, your ammunition and your magazine in three separate locations (I guess if “A” is true then “B” must follow) and that you may not transport a loaded hand gun in your car for any reason (Again, if “A” is true “C” must follow) whether you have a permit or not.

She held these beliefs even after I referenced CRS 18-12-204 for her and I decided this wasn’t the hill I wanted to die on. Mind you this woman purports to be a gun owner.

I’ve had other “gun owners” tell me that all firearms in the state of Colorado must be registered w/ the local police (specifically forbidden under Colorado law)

I’ve been told that you must fill out “special paperwork” in order to sell a firearm in the state. That you must have a CHP to transport a gun in a vehicle period, I had a CSPD desk sergeant tell me that this was a “gray area” he continued to state this even after I showed him this

So my question, very simply, is “How can people who purport to be gun owners be that bloody stupid?

She must have been a cop.

last i checked you don't need intelligence to get a gun permit, just a check for $X.00 and a clean record. doesn't help that every state needs their own version of the g'damn laws about gun ownership.

I've had countless people in CO ask me if I have a permit for my guns, or have them registered. I used to try to explain it to them...now I just say "certainly" and leave it at that. Very rarely will someone try to educate themselves and ask "do you need a xyz?"

I feel that most people that believe you need to register your firearms and have a permit are comforted by the make believe fact that you do. That is why I just keep on letting them think that so they don't get all fired up and try to start a petition/activism/protest. I'd just assume to leave folks like that ignorant of the laws for everyone's good.

yup some days can't help but be surrounded by aholes esp at work
jokers to the left clowns to the right here i am stuck in the middle feeling, i used to feel that way alot in certain work places
hang in there hopefully tomorrow be better day for you

I think it's Clowns to the left of me, Jokers to the right.

Some people think that being allowed to purchase a gun miraculously makes them an expert on the subject.

It is better to keep one's mouth shut, and be considered an idiot, than to open it and remove all doubt.

We have Presidents who cant figure out what the definition of "is" is. We have politicians, judges at all levels, educated people who cant figure out what "infringe" or "shall not" mean and you wonder about this? Really. I am starting to think that stupid is the new normal.

Do any of you really have to know how the imbecile moslem piece of garbage in the whitehouse got elected?

easy, in this case, too many lazy republicans couldn't be bothered to go vote because they were too busy slurping their giant sized drinks or watching american idol.

My observation of those within the gun community is that those who open carry tend to spend more time gaining knowledge of state and local laws regarding carry than any other group. That's not to say that all do, or that some in other groups don't.

Those who don't carry at all, even tho they may be gun owners, tend to know about hunting regulations and what they see and hear on tv. The tv cop shows are their bible for their information.

I have observed that a LOT of misinformation regarding firearm laws is spewed forth on TV, especially crime dramas. Find a firearm at a crime scene on CSI? No problem, the owner will be in the firearm registration database. Dig a bullet out of a body on NCIS? Just determine the caliber, make, serial number, date of manufacture and metallic content scientifically, and reference the all inclusive firearm registration database which will give you (instantly) the name, birthdate, social security number and fingerprints of everyone who has ever owned, touched, looked at or even thought about this particular weapon. Gun in a car on "Special Victims Unit", well of course he was arrested because he didn't have a permit. Situations like this play out over and over as our Heros solve riddles in an hour (less the commercial time). Only the bad guys have guns, usually cases of fully automatic weapons, stolen of course, with the intention of selling them to a marauding street gang, but recovered just in the nick of time. I wonder if this has any connection to the fact that most of these shows are made in California... Anyway, put out enough of this type of excrement and play it over and over and over, and stupid people will think that these laws are uniform from coast to coast. Good luck convincing them otherwise. You may quote your state laws, but they can quote last nights episode.
MR
OTOH, +1 for Top Shot, American Guns, Swamp People and the show about the Louisiana gun shop (I cannot remember the name) for portraying gun owners in a positive light.

obummer wasn't 'elected' he was selected my guess is as a psyop to try and further divide the races .just like them blowing that martin zim case way out of proportion and keeping us 'in tuned' to all the hype and bs and their deliberate psyops on the public as they watched every 20 minutes the charades played over and over again using falsehoods to incite the emotions of the masses trying to portray tray as some innocent 12 yo kid when he was a known thug and trying to make zim out to be some racist gun nut all charades in attempt to divide and distract us from other issues and bills being signed behind closed doors this tactic works time and time again and the people buy into it all the time
it's time folks woke up and stop listening to the bs and stop letting them rent space in your minds cause you to hate fear and act out out of that hate and fear they done planted the seed in them to do or fed already deep seated racism and hate within from the get go
these masters of deception will stop at nothing to control your minds
remember
government = mind control and anyone that trust the government is well deceived imo

My favorite is Castle, frequently they'll have the M.E. look at a body and state that the bullet hole couldn't possibly have been from a 9mm it must have been a much larger round like a .357.

WTF????????????????

Given the fact that firearm laws are more convoluted then most laws are it is easy to see this occurring. I have been told at ranges by people all time that mg's and suppressors are illegal to own many also tell me I should put them out of site before I get into trouble. I have heard all kids of stupid stuff from people at gun shops many times form employees. I would hazard that less then 10 percent of any states population has a true understanding of there states laws covering firearms.
