Visitors at my facility are requested to leave an "offensive or defensive" weapon in their vehicles and employees and subcontractors are subjected to the DHS 'scissor' defense" indoctrination. Unfortunately, my IWB holster has been defined as a 'threat of a weapon' and is also prohibited. Strange turn of events, those charged with saving your life are not allowed to reasonable measures to protect their own.

My firearm has never been offensive to me. It hasn't sassed me or called me or anyone else derogatory names.

:sarcastic:

I have been to a few also that say no weapons permitted. Recently Meadville and McConnellsburg. Security at Meadville but didn't check and no security at McConnellsburg.

Hmm, yes, must get rid of those dangerous holsters. Scary thing... a gun might just appear in there at any second!

Hey longslide. Not sure if you are aware in PA that "no firearm signs" have no weight of law behind them. As such, you may ignore them (unless they are posted in an area that is already off limits, such as courts, etc.). The best anyone could do, if you are found with a firearm is tell you to leave, at which time you must unless you wish to be charged with trespassing.

I've never seen a "no gun" sign at any of the hospitals in lower NYS. And since it's not prohibited by law, carry on.

I think the larger problems with carrying concealed in New York State are the patchwork of regulations governing such carry and the permitting process. I had a carry permit issued by one county in upstate NYS denied by a county in downstate. But it is suppose to be a state permit...go figure.

There is no law against carrying in a hospital.
.
Your permit, issued by any county in NYS, must, by law, be recognized throughout the state outside of NYC, notwithstanding other local laws.
.
NYS PL 400.00(6.) License: validity. Any license issued pursuant to this section shall be valid notwithstanding the provisions of any local law or ordinance. No license shall be transferable to any other person or premises. A license to carry or possess a pistol or revolver, not otherwise limited as to place or time of possession, shall be effective throughout the state, except that the same shall not be valid within the city of New York unless a special permit granting validity is issued by the police commissioner of that city.

Remember, when the 'law' is misinterpreted by those responsible for upholding it, folks like the 23 year old trying to change his address on his carry permit is likely to loose that encounter. It took me another 10 years to leave the state, but I was unable to renew my CCW downstate during that time. When we moved back upstate, I walked into the local sheriff, submitted my application, and had my CCW in about 45 days (pre internet days). Miscarriage of the law, sure, but could I afford to fight the system? I saw no reasonable recourse save comply with the 'rule as interpreted' at that time.

Did you retain an attorney? Did you receive a written denial for cause? Was it arbitrary and capricious? Where was "downstate." Orange, Ulster, Dutchess... all very gun friendly. Individuals will make mistakes in the law. Sometimes you must show them the light... legally speaking. To me its about money. If you give me an opportunity to make money from a judge's mistake I'll jump to it.

No-Yes-IMHO Yes-Sufflok. No judge, just the sheriff or deputy in charge of address changes. Moved back upstate, obtained my CCW in Broome, then moved out of state the next year.

Oh yeah, Suffolk. I had two students from there a few years back. They have that crazy anti-gun mentality. The funny part is that the rest of us with unrestricted permits are free to carry there but Suffolk residents can't. Backwards isn't it?
