Home Depot disrespecting the military

So I am at Home Depot today and the older gentleman in front of me shows his ID for a veterans discount. The clerk tells him he does not qualify for a discount so the gentleman asked to see a manager. They ask me to go to another line because this may take a few minutes. I tell them no thanks I want to hear this.

So a young cocky full of himself moron comes to talk to the gentleman and says no you do not qualify. The gentleman tells him he has always gotten a discount there. So the moron says well we have told our people to tighten the rules and we only give what corporate requires we give and you do not qualify. The gentleman says he will then take his business elsewhere. The young moron replies that is your choice. The gentleman starts to leave and I step in.

I tell the moron if one of your idiot friends walked through the door right now you would have the option of giving him a discount and with your attitude you would do it. So step over to the register and give this guy his discount. He says he does not qualify for it.

So I tell him look here is how this is going to work. Either you give this guy a discount and I call Home Depot corp and tell them how good of a manager you are in spite of the stupid policy.

Or I go home call Home Depot corp tell them I stupid the policy is and their manager is a moron, then I blast face book and it goes viral and you get to be the moron you are.
I think you know which one he chose!
So people please blast Facebook with this story.
It was store E Spokane #4714
5617 E Sprague Ave
Spokane Valley, WA 99212

What a shmuck, he also told the gentleman that he would have to talk to the CEO of Home Depot to change his mind.

I hate people who do not respect our military.

Got my vet discount (10% on total purchase) at an ACE hardware today....... twice.... and hope I can finish this nagging little project without a 3rd trip today

Seems like there was a lot of disrespect by one party...my work group will be frequenting this home depot the next coming months as we work from Spokane to Sandpoint...we have veterans in our group but I doubt they would ever call people morons over a discount, they aren't disrespectful like that.

I've always been deeply appreciative of any business offering a discount to military members. It's never something I expect or demand. Even though the checkout clerk, server in a restaurant, etc. isn't the one who instituted the policy, I always make it a point to sincerely thank them for giving a discount.

So, based upon 'some dude's' message that's sorely lacking in detail as to why his discount was denied, or what ID card he used, you want me to hate on Home Depot which has clearly written guidelines on when discounts apply?

Thanks, I'll pass until there's more information.

First: So, like you know.
Second: I would say the local Home Depot I have to shop at is 75% Vets. So, like you know, yesterday, like so you know, the clerk asked if I was like you know a vet. I like so you know said, yes but not service connected. She like said so you know, does not like you know matter. So I like you know showed her like you know my I.D. and saved like you know, era, 10%.

(so, like you know this was sent from a Nazi, their, there)

As a matter of fact I do, especially when it's used to introduce a question following on from what was said previously. To the best of my knowledge there is no grammatical error in doing so.

I believe that both Home Depot and Lowes are downgrading their veteran discounts, or at least trying to make it more difficult to get them. Orginally all you need was a DD214. Then they starting asking for a Veteran's ID card. I had obtained a TN drivers license marked "Veteran" that was accepted. Last time I was in they wanted an actual Veteran's ID issued by the VA.

Disrespecting Veterans by treating them equal to the general public.... wow. So do they disrespect gays and lesbians by not giving them a discount? Or how about white, protestant males with solid jobs? Or women. Or whoever...because they are treated equally by not being given a discount? Really? Ahhh, the American nightmare, oh I mean dream. I ask for a military discount. If I get it, I say, "Thank you, I appreciate that." If the company say no, then I reply, "OK. Thanks anyway, it never hurts to ask!" Did they disrespect the active duty military? Nope. Disrespect means to treat someone as a lesser than someone else. Now, if they charged veterans an EXTRA 10% above everyone else, that would be disrespect.

Best reply.

I did twenty-eight years in the Army and have always got my discount, what have this change and if so I will be going to Lowes.

Howdy,

I shop at HD about once a month only because the nearest one is 20 miles out of my way but when I do I ALWAYS get a Veteran's discount and I'm ALWAYS treated with respect.

I got a new garden tractor from home depot when they dropped my first one off the flatbed of their truck. The forklift slowly pulled the pallet with the assembled tractor off the edge, and when the left rear corner of the pallet cleared the bed, it broke, and my beloved garden tractor hit the ground nose first, and landed on its top.

I was upbeat about it, and had the delivery guy laughing for a bit, but he said he was going to have to "pay the piper" when he got back to the store.

New one was delivered early next morn., from 27 miles away. No theatrics, but mentioned they should deliver heavy items like that with a pallet designed to support heavy objects. He agreed. Said he was going to be held accountable for the tractor (said he was going to have to buy it) but I don't "buy" that.

Anyway, back on topic; I have a lifetime discount card from a major retailer, but buy few items there as their prices are really out of line compared to other retailers, if homework is done.

After how this administration and the VA are treating vets., I don't know how you "take" it, especially the servicemen/women returning from deployment, being labeled as possible terrorists if they've sought help with a chaplain or other mental health support.

Actually, I always thought the discount was for Active Duty and Retired Military. Didn't know "veterans" could also get the discount. So, a 2 yr draftee from 1956 would get the discount? That would mean that about 90% or more of the US citizen population would get the discount. Don't thing it was meant this way.

Drafted or not they are still veterans that served this country.

Thanks to those who "chose" and those who were "chosen" your service to this country is appreciated

There are many professions that have served the country...should each one get a discount? Should I start blaming companies for disrespecting garbage men?

I'm a veteran. I have never seen anyplace which offers me a "veteran's ID." I am not going to carry a full sized DD214 around with me. Is there such a thing as a government ID card for veterans?

90% where did you come up with that number? Only 12.7% of Americans are Veterans.
