new to the site and looking for advice before i get my ccw license

I carry appendix position...2:30, clock position in case you are not familiar with that. It is very comfortable. However after reading some posts here yesterday about off hand draw and shoot, I realized that this position is hard to draw from left handed and have the gun in the proper position to shoot if the need arises. I will just need to practice more with my off hand draw. There is a lot of good info here and I an sure that this topic has been covered already. Just use the search feature. Welcome to the site. It is also considered proper etiquette to fill in your location info at the least. It could prove necessary to properly answer future questions. I use a super tuck IWB...

I personally carry in a IWB tuckable kydex holster at the 8:30 position, as i am left handed.. my recommendation though would be to try different locations and types of holsters to see what works best for you!! usually if you go to a gun store they have lots of options of holsters that they will let you try on and see how you like them, at least my gun store does... I do have severl holsters though in different formats , because not every holster works for every situation.

I carry at 8:30 also, being left handed. Jay Pearson has excellent advice, it is always best to see what position is comfortable for you. If IWB, then usually behind the hip bone is most comfortable. Righties will normally like 4-5 0'clock and lefties 7-8 0'clock. Your weight and body type play a role on how and where you will like to place your holster. Start with a good quality one from a well known manufacturer. Experiment with position as you walk, sit and maybe even jog. See what doesn't tend to "bite" you as I call it. Good luck and welcome to the forums and CCW. Enjoy your right responsibly. Jim....out

Depends on dress...

I may carry my TCP IWB @ 1:30 or inside my right cargo pocket w/ appropriate holster.

I may carry my .38 Ultralite IWB @ 1:30, OWB @ 3:00 or inside my right front pocket.

I've carried my MP9c OWB @ 3:00(NM), IWB @ 6:00...

I've carried my PT1911 OWB @ 3:00(NM)...

The time of year usually determines my dress, which usually determines my carry piece, which usually determines my carry position.

Try out different weapons at different positions wearing different things...

OWB 4-5 o'clock for CC, 3 o'clock for OC. Looking for a good IWB holster atm, though will probably also carry that at 4-5.

You will find that there is as much rumor mill stories in the firearms world as anywhere else. I too have heard of "back injuries" but never an official story or diagnosis from a doctor. There are things that can be taken as preventative measures to not injure onself, such as don't carry it on your spine, don't let your firearm freely float around your car while driving, only carry with retention II or higher, etc...but in the end there is no substantial evidence to fear it. Find what is comfortable for you, practice, practice practice.

i feel that the 130-2 or 4 o'clock would be the best position IWB for me favoring the 4 o'clock to stay out of the way of my knife and flash light LOL

My SR40C is carried CC, OWB at 3:00 with the FBI forward cant in a Barsoney holster. I never found IWB to be comfortable but thats just me at 6'1" and 210 lbs. What ever you do, get a holster that has retention, either from compresion or a strap.

Can't believe I'm the only one to place in the 11:30 position. I find it comfortable for both draws and with a safety on my S& W, I'm not worried about mishaps. Also more aware of concealment too. It all boils down to what's comfortable to the individual.

As far as your story about back injury I could see it happening...The reason I carry where i do is due to several surgeries to my lumbar spine.I WAS NOT injured carrying a pistol. I have lots of metal in my spine and I am a thin person. If I try to carry anything behind my hip bone it is VERY painful.
