Holster is releasing the thumb safety

I am having an issue with my holster releasing my safety when I re-holster or draw. It happens more than 50% of the time.

I have been carrying about a week, so this very well could be a noob issue, but I have an LC9 and have a kydex holster for IWB carry. The holster is at a very slight forward cant and has a dimple for the thumb safety to rest in. I have checked the safety after I holster and occasionally it if off. Likewise, when I draw (I have tried both pulling straight up and slightly forward for the cant, and over half the time the safety is off when I complete the draw (practice).

I am pretty concerned about this, as I purchased a carry gun with a thumb safety for a reason.

Any insights or advice for me? Is this a draw problem or a holster problem? The holster was purchased at the same time I got the gun, it is not a name-brand holster.

Anyone have a similar issue?

Thanks.

Well, at least if you ever have to draw your weapon in self defense you won't have to fumble trying to take the safety off :)

Or buy a handgun with out a thumb safety and learn to use the safety you where born with called your finger. I have complete faith in my g23 but I also bought my iwb designed specifly for it

I strongly agree with this, that's one thing you don't want to worry about.

I bought a S&W M&P 40 full size with a thumb safety, my holster turns the safety off, the holster was meant to take the safety off I guess as yours might be meant to do, if you ask why, its so you dont have to fumble with it when/if you have to draw, and believe it or not, one of the most dangerous things on your weapon when you have to use it; is the safety, its been proven when you panic, most people forget to remove the safety. Youll get use to it as I have, OR you can go buy a new holster.

I've been carrying weapons with thumb safeties, this is what I prefer. I use Desantis OWB with the thumb break, and fobus paddle holster. NIETHER of my holsters have ever engaged nor disengaged my safety, EVER!

Lets not get on the "keep your finger off the bang button" train. People have preferences. You need to extensively train with any weapon you carry. With this training comes the muscle memory required to subconsciously disengage any applicable safety devices.

There are many theories on safeties! From one end of the spectrum to the other. Yes an engaged safety in the hands of an inexperienced operator of that weapon can be a serious issue. On the other hand criminals know that most weapons that are conceal carry lack an external safety. If you were rushed by a group and lost control of your weapon your safety may spare you the few precious moments to get out of there or take back control while the perp fumbles with it!

Bottom line, carry what your comfortable with and can handle. Regardless of features, train, train, train!!! Carry steady my friends.

I recently purchased the LC9 and carry in a DeSantis pocket holster specific to the LC9 and have had no issues with the safety. I also carry IWB with a cheap Uncle mike's #36 and a #15(neither of which are specific to the LC9), and have had no issues with the safety. Maybe try a kydex or leather holster that is molded specifically for your gun and dump your current holster.

Might I also suggest the Desantis Scabbard it's real nice and has a thumb break. Also American made lifetime warranty!
