Highest velocity 45acp

Just out of curiosity which "factory" 45acp round has the highest velocity ???

It wouldn't be my first choice.

It isn't my primary weapon in the field its a secondary basically a backup nothing more. I will be carrying it during muzzle loader season for deer hunting and figured the muzzle loader gets 1 shot and takes a minute to reload so carrying my 45 with would be nice since I plan on getting a few extra tags this year. Don't mock what I do I simply asked about ammunition not what you felt about my decisions. Obviously if I was hunting big game I would get a Smith and Wesson 460.

I don't think anyone is mocking it.. just not really what the .45 acp was designed for, especially anything beyond 30 or 40 yards, even with high velocity. I would imagine something with a ballistic tip is goig to be the best for its low resistance. I found this thread as well.. 45ACP & hunting?

Other than to finish the job if you you get unlucky and do not have a full kill on the first shot, I would say that hunting with a .45 is not a good choice.

*Basically I plan on using the 45acp the same way they do in the thread you posted. It WONT be my primary weapon. Just as stated in the thread there will be times (example a few deer get close enough for using the pistol and if using muzzle loader you only get "1" shot but with the 45acp on me I can get up to 14 shots) when your sidearm is a better choice and thats why it will be going with me.

Although I noticed in that thread a few of them actually use their 45s for hunting full time. Obviously I know the 45 is not the greatest caliber but close range it should do just fine.

You then basically answered your own question ;)

I would add, pretty much any handgun .30 and up would be suitable. I carry my .38 spl while hunting for that reason, but I would never try to use it on a running/standing target.

Well technically I knew the answer about using it for hunting but I was wanting to know a little more about which ammunition would work best for the situation lol thank you for throwing your 2 cents in cause every suggestion helps a little more.
