High School "Gun Free Zone" sign?

My daughter's high school has a sign at entrance to parking lot that says something like "Drug and Gun Free Zone" and then in smaller print underneath I saw the word "Federal". I'm curious if this means that I can't bring my weapons on campus? The Texas CHL laws say that you are allowed to have your gun on you all the way up to the door of schools, but the reference to 'federal' gun free zone has me wondering.

I checked the laws of the state my grandchildren live in, the state law says you can drop the kids off but if you get out of your vehicle it must stay in the vehicle.

I did not realize if that if I am from out of state this is illegal. Is this true?

I did not know this! My state (NH) allows CCW in the schools here but I wouldn't due to the fed law. Glad to know I can in my state! Too bad VT has a state law prohibiting firearms in their schools. I often have to go into their schools for my job. Do you have a link with this exempt info? Thanks!

(2)
(A) It shall be unlawful for any individual knowingly to possess a firearm that has moved in or that otherwise affects interstate or foreign commerce at a place that the individual knows, or has reasonable cause to believe, is a school zone.
(B) Subparagraph (A) does not apply to the possession of a firearm—
(i) on private property not part of school grounds;
(ii) if the individual possessing the firearm is licensed to do so by the State in which the school zone is located or a political subdivision of the State, and the law of the State or political subdivision requires that, before an individual obtains such a license, the law enforcement authorities of the State or political subdivision verify that the individual is qualified under law to receive the license;
(iii) that is—
(I) not loaded; and
(II) in a locked container, or a locked firearms rack that is on a motor vehicle;

There are more exceptions, I just stopped with the three most common.

See NavyLCDR's post #6 above concerning the actual law in reference to what are called "gun free school zones" that reference how it is illegal for a person who does not have a permit to possess a gun in a "gun free school zone". Please note the word used is NOT carry but "possess". Not only that but even if a person does have a permit from one State but is visiting a different State it is illegal to possess a gun in those gun frees school zones...

So if I'm from Michigan and I go to visit San Francisco ....... even though I have a Michigan permit it is still illegal per FEDERAL law for me to possess a gun in any of the school zones located in SanFran.....

You're not allowed to carry anywhere in California with a Michigan CPL, no confusion there. You need a Feinstein-Endorsed judge/celebrity/congress-only permit.

I knew and understood that... although I should have been more clear that the map was just for illustration purposes of how much of a city those Federal gun free zones can take up. I have no doubt that in some cities where out of State permits are recognized those gun free school zones can cover those cities just as much as they do in San Francisco.... I just was unable to find a map of one of those cities.

And I'd like to add... it is up to the person who has the out of State permit to know where all those Federal gun free school zones are while out of State.
