Hey! I've got an idea...

UATKP

Uncle Al
It is hard for me to believe that the Ammunition Manufacturers don't know (they can't be that stupid) that the DHS is buying up all that ammunition because Oboyimanutjob is attempting to incite an uprising in America, so that he can use the ammo on us.

Plus, surely the Ammunition Manufacturers are pro-2d Amendment... couldn't one suppose that? Since disarmament of American citizens would cut down on their profits the most, in the long run... If we were disarmed, I mean...

So...I think this ammo shortage problem could be solved pretty simply. And I think I have a good idea how to do it.
For starters, I think all the Ammunition Manufacturers in the USA should tell the Federal Government to kiss off, ban sales of more than three boxes per day to the government, until further notice.. they have enough.
Same for Law Enforcement... temporary of course... say for just a month or two... to let the stock build up.

Then they can put all of their stock into public sales. And sell like hell's gettin' hot, until all civilians get whatever amount they want.

And then they could extend the restrictions on the government purchases until they repeal all laws that infringe on the 2d Amendment.

How do you like my idea?

(All tongue in cheek, of course.)

Just thinking about it being the feds that are causing the shortages, because they get first buy... then LE, then civilians... according to the Manufacturer's Association.
The thought that civilians are causing the shortages by buying up all the ammo is just a liberal spin being put on the issue by the media. If it was the civilians causing the problem, there would be more than about 6 or 8 boxes of ammo per week come into the stores. The government is amassing large stores of ammo. JMHO

If you are a large ammo maker, you will find that the gov't already has the "right" to take 10% of your production. I think instead, that should be the max that they are allowed.

I still think we're doing this to ourselves with panic buying and hoarding - the ammunition industry in the US can produce 1 billion rounds a week. The shortages we're seeing go WAY beyond a couple of large government orders. I've met several civilians at Walmart who have told me they have over 100k rounds hoarded in several calibers and are still looking for more. If I ran into several on a casual trip to Walart on any given Wednesday, how many of them do you think are out there?

now, I'm in no way against having as much ammo as you want...but if even 10,000 people (I'm sure there's more than that nationwide) decide they need to have a stockpile of over 100,000 rounds in several calibers that adds up to billions of rounds on a regular basis...and the longer they see the empty shelves that they themselves are creating the more they panic and the more they buy.

Can you please elaborate on this? (highlighted part of your quote) I guess I'm missing something...
I agree with you on the max amount they should be allowed to get.

Well, just how many people can afford to buy 100,000 rds of ammo? I suspect darn few. 10k rds. at todays prices is about $7,500. That is at .75 cents each. That would be cheap for .223/5.56. I think a lot of this is just talk. But I do believe the feds are causing the majority of this ammo crisis. There is no conceivable reason for the astronomical quantities of ammo being purchased with our tax dollars.

One of the lessor known rules for ammo manufacturers from our gov't I guess. Local manufacturer got a letter and phonecall saying that. I think it comes under the ITAR regs from the Dept of State. The same people we would have to pay a manufacturing tax to just to be a Type 07 manufacturer. $2250 per year just to be allowed to assemble parts to make a complete AR-15 or assemble ammo from components under a Type 07. Federal Excise tax on ammo is 11% of sale price of the ammo. Which is under the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau of the Department of the Treasury. I'll talk to the manufacturer and see if I can get a copy of his letter and who it came from.

Walmart sells 9mm at around 30 cents a round and the guy s I talked to did not look particularly rich... they laughingly said they maxed out their credit cards, "but some things are important"

I guess if you really thought this was your last chance to stock up and you had a line of credit....

besides, it wouldn't take that many people...only a couple of tens of thousands, and I'm sure there are easily that many people in the US that can sink $30k into ammo. heck, I usually have about 40k 12 ga. target shells on hand because my wife and I shoot A LOT of sporting clays.

Look in the mirror if you want to know why the prices are high and quantities are low. I am sure that the ammo manufactures are happy that the government and citizens are purchasing everything that they are making. They are making money from both sides. Do you really think that LE agencies like BATF or DHS are going to knock on someone's door and not have enough ammo to carry out or continue the fight? The gun community talked themselves into this. The last time I was in a Meijer story there was only a few boxes of any cal. of ammo. Man, I would like to go back to the days when I could shoot my .22, .38 or 9mm for a few cents.

And how do you expect the manurfacturers to pay their bills and make payroll? You think they have millions just sitting around? They must make sales quotas to keep the company running.

Read the statement in parenthesis, BC. :o)
