Herter's ammo???

So Cabelas had a sh-t load of Herter's on the shelf in all calibers today. The price alone makes you go hmmm in the current pricing environment. $13.99 per 50 on 9mm. $16.49 on .40 and $17.99 on .45. Aluminum case doesn't scare me so much because I don't reload but nylon coated??? Anybody have any experience/advice with these guys? Thanks.

Isn't Herters rebranded Russian import? Steel case with polymer coating? That price does not sound like a deal.

Maybe. Not sure. These in particular were aluminum casing with "full nylon jacket". Seems unnatural. Passed on them and looking for advice for future.

I've shot a lot of Herter's. Unfortunately their quality does seem to vary. I have tried their .30 carbine and had all kinds of issues. Tried their 9mm and .40 and had none. The only polymer coated rounds I've personally tried was their .45 ACP and I had a couple of FTF out of every 50 or so rounds. On the other hand, I found a rough edge on the feed ramp of the pistol that was experiencing the problem. Never had any issues with the regular FMJ ball ammo but the nylon coating on the bullet was soft enough to catch, and hang, when it hit that rough edge just right. I've cleaned up and polished the feed ramp but haven't had a chance to get any more of the ammo to see if that resolved the issue. I'd like to say it was the feed ramp but until I've ran some more of the Nylon Coated stuff through the gun I can't say it WASN'T the ammo.

i have used the following with out issue: 223 in Mini 14 no problems, 9mm Beretta 92 no issues and .45 in Ruger SR 1911 went bang every time and fairly consistent with accuracy.
