Get out and vote! The only ppl who are Armed in New York are the ones who are going to rob you next. Unless you? The ppl tell your elected officials they are only there because YOU voted them in~and you can vote them out just as easy!

Well, this post seems a bit wasteful and not really worthy of "discussion." there's the inherent logical silliness of it all: "we the people" cannot vote them out because "the people" other than "us" in New York State want more taxes, more gun control laws, more spending, more teachers, and more illegal immigrants.

In NY, especially NYC; there is a warped Liberal/Progressive mindset. There are many there that believe guns cause crime, and if you dare try to protect yourself against a criminal. You're prosecuted more vigorously than a criminal, to the point that you might be better off claiming to have been the actual mugger rather than defending yourself from one.

Crime is big business in NYC; keeps many people employed: social workers, prosecutors, public defendants, cops, jails, and many other "social services". If all of a sudden there were lot less criminals, a lot of people would be out of a job. To help prevent that, more laws are thrown on the books, so that the average law abiding citizen can be charged with a misdemeanor or felony at any time by an over-zealous prosecutor.

We the people are the minority. It is hard to imagine sometimes as NY feels like it's own country in how different it is here vs the majority of the country. NJ is right along with it. Just check out gunforhireradio.com podcasts and here what the guys in NJ are trying to do. It's a long shot but in less than a year they are making themselves noticed and heard.

Amen. You are now the minority. How does it feel? Your best bet is to vote with your feet.

I voted with my feet. Moved away three years ago to Texas and I'm never moving back. Nice place to visit, all my family is there, but it will be even better to visit after National Reciprocity is passed.

It isn't easy, as a matter of fact it's really hard, to find a pro gun candidate in New York. And some of us, for family or other reasons, just can't "vote with our feet" at this time. So we do the best we can with what we have to work with.

Excepting one or two other states, NYS has more handgun permits than any other state. New York has a larger percentage of population with a handgun permit than most other states. Hell, we have more illegal aliens in NYC alone than some states have total "legal" residents.

The people in NYS don't want more taxes, we're already the second or third highest taxed state in America (CA & MA) My property tax alone would break most families. The people of NYS also don't want more gun control laws. But rest assured the people of NYC do! The history of gun control propsals in NYS shows numerous attempts by Democrat leaders to implement rediculous gun control laws. Micro-stamping and numerous other laws continue to get whacked in the GOP Senate. The big problem with NYS is lack of reciprocity and the unwillingness of a few counties to issue unrestricted permits. Most of us move about armed and unmolested. NYS is now planning to scrap its COBUS ballistic fingerprint system for handguns... this from a Democrat anti-gun governor.

I still say vote with your feet if you can do so.

Just called my local g-store today. COBIS is not done yet. The state government doesn't want to fund it. It will have to be voted on to have removed. Can you imagine if they force the $200 or so cost per transaction onto the buyer; that could happen with the mindset we have today.

New York

Wow i didnt expect these types of responses...i dont live in New York, but i get to go on Business a few times a year. I have Sold many Firearms to ppl in New York, and as far as they are concerned they would like to see their 2nd Amendment Rights in a fair light. Thanks for all your reply's...as a Firearms Dealer i would like to see a larger market.

Panic at the gun store. Don't listen to these guys. Ever hear the crap they spout to customers? I ran this by my state Senator. COBIS will end.

lots of gun shops have learned that they can sell more guns advertising doomsday rather than advertising a sale.

They've learned that posters proclaiming "this may be the last day to purchase a gun before Obama makes all firearms illegal" are much more effective than "Sale - one week only"

Yes it will. They are trying to get the Budget passed in the next 2 weeks. As soon as it passes, you can put a fork in COBIS.
Meanwhile, the Attorney General's Gun Show saga continues. They are still conducting a phishing expedition on the operators of the Gun Show. The NRA offered the names of some high priced attorneys and their bills are piling up. NRA didn't offer any other support.
SCOPE donated some money to their cause and is planning on donating more.
It appears that if Bloomberg and his lackey's can't close the alleged gun show loophole they will persecute the gun show operators until they can not afford to stay in business. Death by a thousand cuts.

I agree for the most part, though it's important to realize that one reason NY has so many handgun permits is that it is one the few states that requires a license to even own a gun to begin with. For the most part, everyone gets concealed carry license and the NYC premises license included in the overall number are essentially "shall issue."

The biggest problem with NY laws is not the lack of reciprocity and even an "restricted" permit still makes carry legal 24/7. I personally think the biggest problems with NY's gun laws are (in descending order): 1) that you need a license to even own; 2) you must register guns; 3)NYC regular carry permits are difficult to get without a high demonstration of "need" based on carrying a lot of cash. 4)the license is no good in NYC unless from NYC;

Overall, and excluding the gun issue per se, I really just mean that New Yorkers "want" all those terrible policy because they keep electing the people that vote for them and propose them.
