Hendrick Honda in Hickory, NC Has no concealed weapon sign

Took my odyssey for service today. After checking in I walked to the showroom and saw the sign.

I informed the service staff of my disapproval and that I would no longer be doing business there. I stressed that I support their right as a private business to have the policy, but that I disagreed with it so strongly that I could not continue to do business with them.

Service staff was very nice. Said they did not care about or enforce the sign. Said it was mandated by corporate.

I also sent an email to the business stating my position firmly but politely.

This is the email I sent
"I purchased a 2012 odyssey from the Hickory Honda location last year. Today I brought it in for 10K service and an inspection. I noticed the no concealed weapons sign.

While I support your right as a private business to have this policy, I strongly disagree with it to the point that I will no longer be doing business with your company until this policy changes.

No weapon zones are human hunting preserves. Only the lawful obey those signs. A killer will actually seek out these areas so as to have less resistance.

In the current political environment where our leaders use tragedies to advance their agendas I cannot support businesses with these signs.

I would think with Hendrick's background in racing, your company would be more sensitive to the pro-second amendment sentiments of most of your fans.

Please do not reply to me with explanations talking of Safety. That argument is ridiculous and has no basis in fact or statistical occurrence."

If anyone else lives in the area or anywhere near a Hendrick dealership (they have multiple brands) or is a fan of the Hendrick racing organization you can contact them with the following link.

Has anyone noticed these signs at other Hendrick dealerships?

Though I don't live in SC, I am very causious when I walk into a business looking for signs stating no weapons allowed or weapons free business and so far I have run acrross only a hand full and the signs are so small that you can hardly read it. I worked for a bank and they had one printed off with a cartoonish looking gun. Now if someone were to think about robbing this bank, do you think that they will obey that sign?
Just MY 2 cents

Here in MN, it's regulated that signs must be 187 sq. in. I believe to be a 'legal' sign and must clearly state in bold, contrasting letters. I have only run into a small number of places, however they are not places I frequent often. Now, they are places I will probably cease patronizing because I now carry. True, each business has it's own right to restrict us from giving them our money, however I can see the point in a dealership. Lots of items to be made off with at gunpoint. Again, the main point is made, that if you have intent to hold up a joint, you're not going to leave just because there is a no guns sign.

I've often wondered how many of these signs I've missed, because they were too small, not located where they should be, or I've been a victim of sign overload.

It seems in everyday life, thousands of signs are everywhere; do this, don't do that (reminds me of a song), sale, buy, ad nauseum.

My brain becomes focused to the task at hand and not reading 10,000 signs from a parking lot to a business, let alone those inside when I get there. One exception may be a grocery section, where in spite of my best efforts, I can't remember where "stuff" is one visit to next. I've accused them for years of moving things around, except stuff in coolers, as they are hard to move.

The signs stating "No Guns Allowed" are not legal in MN no matter what size they are and print size and font!

The state put a sign in a restaurant here locally in NM. stating no guns allowed. Not placed where it should be, and not of legal size. Later the owner wrote in felt tip pen, "Concealed carry OK" :)

The response from the general manager was basically that they value my business and thanks for the feedback.

BTW the link I previously posted goes to the hickory dealership only. The following link is for the Hendrick Automotive Group

Good on the op for sticking to his morals. I will not do business with an establishment that restricts any form of carry.

I immediately got a response from the Hendrick auto group by phone saying that they don't manage this dealership but would see what they could do. Apparently the hickory Hendrick Honda was owned by a brother of the owner of the Hendrick auto group.

Good job standing up for our rights.... I cannot think of a time in recent years I have done business with anyplace with a sign like that. In Florida where I live, those signs mean exactly SQUAT. It is basically a 'request' on their part, I can choose whether to obey it or not. If I choose not to obey it, the worst they could do should they know had a concealed firearm would be ask me to leave and call the cops to trespass me should I refuse.

Buffalo Wild Wings is a place that has an anti-2A policy.... I wouldn't feed their crap to my guinea pigs so I don't worry about it.

@vernsimpson

Thanks for the info - Where are you seeing this stated? As a newer carry permit holder I'm interested to know all the correct facts. Our training stated these sign posting requirements for MN, and included a snip from the state rulings etc. If you have different/updated information, I'd love to see it.

Of course, in Minnesota, if you do happen to not see a sign, and get tagged for it by staff, all they can ask you to do is leave, or call the police. All the police will do is request that you leave, and give you a $25.00 fine, nothing that goes on record or tagged to your carry permit..

If you continue to have honest gun owners/carriers spending their money elsewhere and notify the management we can effect, shall I say it, CHANGE.

I think if the same email was sent a year ago it would have no effect. With the recent legislation failing, the surge in gun sales, ammo sales and ccw permit applications we have made our statement loud and clear. Companies like this know we are not just a fringe group in society but instead a serious percentage of their potential customer base.

Just in case anyone wants to email them or contact them. Here ya go: Link Removed.

I WILL not do business with any business that has a sign posted.

Thanks mappow. But just remember that I confirmed a couple of days ago that the sign is no longer there.

They have removed the signs.
