Help Needed - Resource for Importing Firearms

Hi all, I've been a member here for some time but never posted (that I know of). I'm looking for some good resources online about importing firearms into the US (unfortunately, California). I am currently on vacation visiting my wife's family in Eastern Europe (Lithuania) and saw a really cool gun with a Soviet Union stamp on it (CCCP). It got me thinking, I wonder if I can buy a cool gun here (rifle, shotgun, or handgun) and legally bring it back to the US. I don't mind paying a little bit of money to go through the proper channels, or having to wait for some time to receive my gun. Anybody done this or know of a good online resource that might have information about this? Thanks in advance!

P.S. - I'm leaving in 5 days so I don't know if that's enough time to get things taken care of, but perhaps I can research now and buy something next time we come back (usually every other year)

Your post made me curious so I did a bit of checking around. Apparently, you can ship your long barreled firearm (disassembled) using FedEx or UPS. To avoid any problems, I would ship it to an FFL of your choice that is local to where you live.

Therefore, you will need to:
a) contact an FFL and let them know what you are doing.
b) break down your rifle for shipping and contact a FedEx or UPS near you to ship
c) pick up your package from the FFL when you get back home.

There was some grey area on whether you could ship it directly to yourself which is why I stated to go through an FFL. Also, notice I've used the term rifle or long-barreled gun. You may not ship a handgun through FedEx or UPS. I would contact your local FFL and find out how to do it legally for a handgun. Good luck to you.
