I am looking for a gun with similar feel of the glock 27. Three requirements; must have true safety, be 3.5 inch barrel or less, and under 500.00. Thank you.

Glocks have three internal safeties that will not allow the gun to fire unless the trigger is pulled. Having said that, you could buy an aftermarket safety and have it installed for a lot less than $500. Just do a google search for "manual safety for glocks" without the quotes.

having owned glocks, XD's, PX4, and several brands of 1911's.

I will now always recommend a 1911
if you need more ammo per clip, then a Para or STI

Check out the Ruger SR line of guns. The SR9c is about the same size as a G26. The SR40 series is also an option as well as the SR1911 if you want to go that route.

The PX4 Storm Sub Compact has a safety, changeable grip panels, 9mm or 40S&W and right at $500!!A real sweet shooter with unquestionable quality....IMHO

The safety is a concern of my wife. We have three small children. I have not bought my gun yet, just really liked the g-27.

Then get a gun vault or something along those lines of keeping yer firearm safe. I have 4 youngsters running around ages 8, 7, 6 and 2. The three older know through proper gun training (thru myself) that if they SEE something, to not touch and tell an adult. Guns ranging from 30.06, 30/30, .22 rifle (which is theirs) and pistols .45acp, 9mm and .22. Not saying I'm careless by any means, but I involve my kids into the gun world as much as possible. Just my 2 cents. The woman wasn't keen on it in the beginning as she was never around such things growing up, but now she wants to clean (my job) and shoot as much as I do.

Agree that if you want a G27 (my daily carry) and the wife is concerned about a "safety", understand that if you are not going to monitor a child when a gun is laying around then you should wait because the best safety is between your ears. If you do not have a carry permit (and your state affords you the right to get one) do so and keep it with you at all times or always either out of reach or in a gun safe. I have Gun Vault brand safe that holds my SR9c and spare mag but my G27 stays on my hip all day and on my night stand at night. Can't sleep without my baby by my side. Don't get a cheap gun just so it has a bunch of buttons and levers to fiddle with. Read the other forums about safeties and split-second reaction times and you might want to stick with a Glock or similar system. Even though my Ruger has a slide lock safety I don't ever use it. It has a trigger safe system like the Glock and since it stays in the safe until my wife goes out (hers) I don't worry about little hands (20-month old). Happy shopping!

I second all the above. I will add that if you have kids around your guns need to be locked up or either on your hip. Here in Fla if your kids get a hold of one of your guns and something happens, "Its Your Fault"!!!
Your wife is concerned about a manual safety on the gun, her main concern should be to secure the gun where the kids will not be able to get a hold of it, but still be easy for her to get in case of an emergency.

In my opinion...The Glock is one of the most safe guns you can buy, just like a revolver, you have to pull the trigger inorder for it to fire. Which is why I carry a G19, its simple and safe.
