Help I just moved to Wa

I just moved up to Washington I have a Utah concealed carry permit and every where I go up here people tell me my permit isnt recognized by Washington to purchase firearms. Can someone help me find where it is that it tells them I cant use a concealed weapon permit to buy firearms? I know that my permit is recognized by the state as a permit and I am allowed to carry why cant I use it like I could in Utah so I dont have to pay for background checks or wait to be cleared for purchase?

I suspect Washington doesn't recognize your Utah permit for buying guns because when you have a Washington permit, a background check through both the Washington state system and the federal system has already been performed, and both of those checks are required in Washington.

To get a Utah permit, they don't run a Washington state background check prior to issuance. So while you can carry in Washington, you can't use it to waive the gun buying background checks there.

I have a Washington non-resident permit, which is recognized in Idaho but it doesn't allow me to waive Idaho's buying background check. Fortunately Idaho does an instant check, so I have to wait no more than 5 minutes. Washington has a 5 day wait for residents, up to 60 days for non-residents (you must live there for at least 90 days and have Washington photo ID), so I don't think you'll be able to get a gun immediately.

If you've just moved, you'll have to wait a little while(90 days). Apply for the WA CPL as soon as you can and you'll be able to skip the 5 day waiting period, but it takes a little while for the CPL to come in the mail, more than the 5 days, so you'll be able to get your purchase faster if you just do it once you're elegible.

Washington also runs a check for mental health( committed for mental issues), and a sex crimes background check, to make sure you don't have any violent offenses on your record. They also check for ANY Domestic Violence charges. Some states don't require those specific checks. There are also states that issue adults under 21 CCW permits, which WA does not. So they can't legaly recognize their CCW, for State Law reasons. If you apply for a WA permit, you go to your county Courthouse, fill the paperwork,pay the 56-60 dollars, run your fingerprints. For state and federal check. Once you're eligable, you get your permit in about 30 days. I'm not sure how long you have to wait to be considered a resident. You can call the courthouse to find out. Once you get your residency permit though, with your utah permit, you should be good across the country. The non-resident tax on guns happens in alot of states. Mine isn't recognized in Oregon, because they have a law that prohibits them from recognizing other states CCW. So' when I travel to Oregon, I have to keep my weapon off my body unless I apply for a non resident CCW. Without a WA CCW, you have a 5 day wait period on handguns. Hope that helps some. Also, once you become a Washington resident, your Utah permit is no longer valid in Washington for anything.

(1)(a) A person licensed to carry a pistol in a state the laws of which recognize and give effect in that state to a concealed pistol license issued under the laws of the state of Washington is authorized to carry a concealed pistol in this state if:

(i) The licensing state does not issue concealed pistol licenses to persons under twenty-one years of age; and

(ii) The licensing state requires mandatory fingerprint-based background checks of criminal and mental health history for all persons who apply for a concealed pistol license.

(b) This section applies to a license holder from another state only while the license holder is not a resident of this state. A license holder from another state must carry the handgun in compliance with the laws of this state.
