Hello to all and 9mm ??'s

Hey There I'm new to the CCW forum and just wanted to say hello.

I've got a couple quick questions. I'm looking at two used 9mm autos, one is a Sig P6 (225 type) and the other is a S&W 908 both are selling for $340 and I did shoot them both today. The Sig is a former Polizi (sp) weapon has some dings and needs a re-blueing I guess. While the S&W was a trade-in thats in excellant shape. I'm leaning towards the S&W because being new to the handgun field, I like the saftey switch on the S&W compared to the Sig. just looking for some pointers, thanks H-

Take the smith. It probably was owned by a private owner, spent it's life in a safe place, and probably wasn't fired lots. You might be able to use Model 59 magazines for more firepower.

The Sig was a former cop gun. It didn't belong to the cop(s) who carried it. Who knows if TLC was used. It probably was in/out of he elements. It was in and out of a holster, and fired who knows how many times. It is however a Sig.

I would take the smith. However, you are the one to fire it. What ever fits you the best.

+1 for the Sig here (ok, I kinda have a Sig fetish... full disclosure)

I purchased one of these P6's a couple of years ago when they could be had for about $250... been a great gun! I spent $49 to have my gunsmith replace the mainspring due to a rather stiff trigger pull on those..I guess the German Police are afraid of accidental discharges or something :fie:

I own lots of Smith revolvers, but have not liked the two Smith autos that I owned (1006 and 4506).

Anyway, my two cents worth... post when you buy and let us know what you decided!leasantry:

I prefer the SIG over the S&W.

The SIG P-6 (P225) is a German police trade in gun. Due to the influx of all the German polce trade ins, the value of used SIG P-225s has dropped. Used ones use to sell in the $500 range. The SIG P225 (P6) is a great gun, very accurate and reliable.

The S&W Model 908 is one of the last metal framed non-1911 semi-auto pistols that S&W made. The Model 908 was the econo-line version of the Model 3900 series. The S&W 3rd generation pistols have good reliability and decent accuracy. I use to own two S&W 3rd generation pistols (Model 3914 & Model 4014), but got rid of them. Did not care for the trigger pull, slide mounted safety and magazine disconnect.

I'm an S&W fan so I vote for the 908. I have a 3913 that has never failed me. I suspect the 908 will be just as reliable.

Hey thanks to all for the input. I went with the S&W and got a Pachmyer grip to widen it just a hair to fit my hand better. I'm trying to post a few pictures but my PC is way slow and takes forever sometimes. Got the case, first factory round shot through it and all the documents with it. The Sig had nothing, this wasn't the reason I went with the S&W. It's just seemed to fit my needs better overall. Again thanks and be seeing you down the road on here later. H-

Ditto. The Sig will probably serve you well, I know my old Sig Pro has, but I am sure the Smith will do just as well and like the man said, it probably was not shot as much as the Sig.:biggrin:
