He had the right idea about gun control....

Link Removed I don't think anyone in politics has the balls to say this any more.

We need another like him. Don't see that happening anytime soon.
I am afraid you might be right, though deep in my heart I hope you are wrong. Remember Ronald Reagan wasn't well liked at first because he was ..."just actor..." but when he debated John Kennedy the house of cards fell down and everyone went for him. Not many knows he has a management degree. Though he said he will not raised the taxes, he did during that first year and then he explained why in a believable manner. Then he gave it back as soon as the country can afford it. Now that is transparency, the real one.

If anyone wants to learn more about Ronald Reagan what better than to read In the President's Secret Service: Behind the Scenes with Agents in the Line of Fire and the Presidents They Protect by Ronald Kessler.

There are things to admire about Reagan, but cherry-picking one quote out of his entire record does not further the truth of the matter that he was a mixed bag on gun issues. He signed the ridiculously disingenuously-named Firearms Owners' Protection Act of 1986, which will end up being the death knell for privately-owned full-auto weapons when the remaining units either complete their useful functional cycle, or they're confiscated, either potentiality of which has about 50/50 odds of coming to fruition to my way of thinking. He also supported the original Brady Bill, which one might understand because of him being so severely injured in the same incident that prompted Brady's emergence as government's #1 gun-grabber, but still, he was hardly the Patron Saint of gun rights.

The words in the OP quotation were said by Reagan in '83. By '86 he was part of the gun-grabbing cabal that enacted the last in the Triad of worst gun control measures in our history. As Governor of CA he signed the Mulford Act, one of the reasons that CA is still a largely no-carry state. He also supported and signed the bill that instituted a 15 day waiting period for CA gun purchases, double the waiting period imposed by the Brady Bill several years later.

He was no friend to the 1st Amendment either, evidenced by his use of the National Guard to quash anti-war protests at CA universities as Governor.

To this day I do not question Reagan's good intentions, but as a politician, good intentions only count when they comport with good actions. Reagan's record is definitely a mixed bag in that regard.

Blues

Regan had a way of talking to people, not at them like our current "occupier" of the White House. He was likely the best President of my lifetime. Maybe not perfect, but what person is.

So when the main stream media slammed Reagan about how terrible Reaganomics was, are to believe that. Reaganomics worked by the way but people like you refuse to accept it. Just trying to understand your logic. In other post you talk about all the lies of the main stream media and the internet has the truth. It's more than my undereducated brain can take.
