HB0995/SB1171 (Guns in Parks) is headed to the Governor's desk:

Firearms and Ammunition - As introduced, allows a person with a handgun carry permit to carry a firearm in any state, county, or municipal park or other recreation area; deletes provisions allowing local governments to prohibit carrying in parks by resolution or ordinance. - Amends TCA Title 39, Chapter 17, Part 13.

While TN handgun permit holders (and those out of state visitors with reciprocity) were already allowed to carry at state and national parks, there was still a provision in the law allowing local governments to prohibit carrying in their parks. Local parks in Memphis, Nashville, and other cities were posted. In fact, the Moms Demand Action rally of about 110 people near the NRA convention was held in Nashville's Riverfront Park, which is posted. This change in the law removes this last local authority on prohibiting carrying. Handgun permit holders can also carry their handguns in parks used by schools as long they are not in the "immediate vicinity" of a school event in the park.
