Here are some interesting facts about the Declaration of Independence, courtesy of the History Channel:

A refresher course on what it means to be an American.

My travels the past week have been quite revealing as to the state of our nation. Most people know of arrested football player Aaron Hernandez, but many do not know that their government has been tapping their phone conversations. This is the citizenry that we are dealing with as we approach the July 4 celebration of our nation’s birth. Had the Founding Fathers been as dumbed down and apathetic as the normal US citizen, we would still be under British rule, or possibly far worse—Hitler may well have had his way and we would all be goose stepping to our fourth of July parade and watching our kids wearing fascist armbands. Maybe we all need a refresher course on what it means to be an American.

The current occupant of the Oval Office and King George have some things in common. The Declaration of Independence enumerated grievances against the King. They included [Excerpted from the Declaration]: “He has refused his assent to laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good; He has obstructed the administration of justice; He has erected a multitude of new offices, and sent hither swarms of officers to harass our people, and eat out their substance; He has combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution, and unacknowledged by our laws; giving his assent to their acts of pretended legislation; For quartering large bodies of armed troops among us;

… For imposing taxes on us without our consent; For depriving us in many cases, of the benefits of trial by jury; In every stage of these oppressions we have petitioned for redress in the most humble terms: our repeated petitions have been answered only by repeated injury. A prince, whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people.” Most of us can relate. The occupant of the Oval Office has the common traits of a tyrant as defined by the Founding Fathers of this nation. The Founders quite possibly would have looked upon this current nation as far beyond the terrors of King George—abortion, saying marriage can be between same sexes, phone tapping, not enforcing border security, targeting opponents with para military agencies such as the FBI and the IRS—the list goes on.

Leftists and even some Christians claim that the Founding Fathers were not all that they seemed. Some say they were not Christians, others say they were deists, others twist their words into strange meanings. They can have their opinion. I see reverence for God and His laws written into the Declaration and into the Constitution. This nation would not have existed without the blessings of the one true God and the actions of the men and women who followed God. Their day is long past. Their vision is dimmed by time and treachery for the generations have lost their way to the darkness. The State of our Union on July 3, 2013 is far from July 3, 1776 not only in years, but in values.

We face similar challenges politically as did the Founders. Difference is, they collectively knew that God made us to be equal and free and that we are born with God-given rights. To secure those rights from those who would take them, government is formed by the consent of the people. The difference between the Founders and the average contemporary American is just that. They knew the reason for equality, freedom, and government. Today’s average American knows more about the latest celebrity gossip. The Founders did something about the tyranny they faced. Will we? As Romans 13:12 says, “The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light.”

Have A Blessed And Powerful Day,

Bill Wilson

As a former history teacher (back in the 60's, 1960's that is) I tried to help my students understand history and not simply "rote" memory with no connection to the importance of certain dates. I feel confident that many of my former students would have not been tripped up by the questions in this video. It was obvious the people questioned did not listen to the questions. These are good examples of low information voters the administration uses to maintain power.
-----I applaud Ringo for his refresher course. I think it would be good that every person who wants to vote should have to get 5 out of 10 questions on American History facts correct before being allowed to vote. While 50% is technically a failing grade, at least getting half correct would mean they knew something about our history. Of course, the libs would go berserk because half of lib members of Congress or in the Executive branch probably would fail it. And, if it is too much a burden to be able to prove you are who you claim before voting, there is no chance they will allow only people to vote who know what they are doing when they check a candidate's box.

I TOOK history in the 60s and I consistently flunked it. So I doubt if I could get 50% on a history test now. I did do OK in government and civics classes though.

All you have to do is watch Jay Leno's Street Walking and you'll get a great example of the stupidity of the people in our country, hell one guy was asked to view a picture of Albert Einstein and was asked who is this, to which he said, one of the signers of the declaration of independence, and these people have children.

I also took history in the 60s. Absolutely hated it. Back then it had no relevance or use to me personally, so it was not my best subject. After detesting it in high school, then came college. Since the insane inhabitants of the East and West coast (politicians) are bastardizing our constitution and bill of rights, I connected with history, and read a lot of now interesting facts (facts, used loosely) about our nation, origin, and form of government.

Back to the leftist, ignorant masses. Low information voter, when run through my meaning processor, came up with stupid socialists, usually ass down on the ground (or couch), watching TV shows that glorify icons of stupidity. One example, The Simpsons. Other shows too numerous to mention, but you get the drift. I see grown men and women watch this tripe. Unbelievable that the pursuit of entertainment has lured young adults into being, and acting like clueless, vegetative kids, who never grew up, and never will.

It's called Jay Walking.
