This is what i have bought so far -


MPro 7 Bore Cleaning Solvent

I still need to find a better bore brush, but i added that to my cart just incase i can't find a good bronze one. The reviews i read on the one brand said they were cheap @ midway usa and they fall apart so might have to find a better brand locally.

So if i throw all of this into a tackle box what else might i need to clean my gun?
 
Cotton diapers and/or microfiber cloths, steel brush, nylon toothbrush, wooden applicators or toothpicks. If you can get your hands on dental scrapers (stainless steel type, not plastic), that might b good as well. I throw in a pair of clear eye protection. It looks funny to be cleaning your guns wearing eye protection, but when you get some Hoppes #9 or CLP in your eye for the first time, you really won't care how funny you look the next time. :fie:

You might want to pick up an additional cleaning rod. I have two when I do mass gun cleanings. I'll have one set up with a bore brush, another with either a patch loop or patch jig. This way you're not constantly switching out the rod tips. A large place mat would work good for a cleaning mat. Another option would be a rubber car mat. I've got one that I use when I'm doing serious maintenance on the guns. The raised sides of the rubber car mat contain solvent spills, and runaway parts. I'll spread out old newspaper under the car mat to catch any errant splashes or fluid spills.

Any idea on what the best brand bore brushes are? I saw multiple reviews of Dewey bore brushes that say they fall apart after a couple cleanings.

Are KleenBores the best?

KleenBore, Hoppes, etc. They're all about the same. I replace my bore brushes about once a year. They last about a dozen cleanings or so, then they get worn to a point of being ineffective. Cool thing about larger caliber brushes (like .45 acp and .40 s&w) is that once they get a little worn down, you can use them on the next smaller caliber. Not something I do, but I've seen folks on do this. My feeling is that a $1.25 for a new brush isn't gonna break the bank for me, and if I'm gonna do the job, may as well do it with the proper equipment.

Found a Winchester bronze brush at Walmart for $1.97 . Looks to be good enough quality.

So i don't have to worry about finding one online.
 
My Cleaning "Kit" is Minimum...I use a short STEEL T-Handle Rod as It is Rigid and Has the Strength to Take a Little Pounding if You get a Stuck Case in Chamber... Add A Can of WD-40 and an Old T-Shirt....
After I shoot with Training ammo I wash The Barrel out with Water as I Just shoot Up Military FMJ and I never know if Its Old or Corrosive primers... Couple Passes with a Bronze Brush...I Spray a patch Wet with the WD-40, run it thru...Then a Dry Patch paying attention the Chamber is Dry...and Wipe Down Outside Slide... Thats it, Done Business. Easy Breezy... I'll Use EEZOX when We Can Get it....Hard to Find Here. I Dislike "Gun Oil" as it Grimes and Get Mushy... Don't Like Break Free either as It gets Slimy in the Tropic Humidity...
Doing it That way for 25 Years,,,and My Bores are bright, shiny and I'm Happy and No Rust...Just a lot of Daily Carry Wear.
(in Rainy Season, I do get More Rust on Slide from the Sweat on my Hands so I wipe off GunTwo Times a Day with a lite motor oil rag)
For my 1911 .45acp, I do Take a Little Extra Time Inside the Gun as more Steel parts... Thats Why I like the GLOCK Better.

I Should've Added That Once a Year (Sometimes Twice) My Working Guns, Both Rifles and Handguns, Get a Complete Take Down and Bath ..... They Are Inspected and Parts Replaced as needed... Thanks. Captain
 
A rod (bore) guide for anything that you have to clean from the muzzle end. i.e. revolvers.
 
Cotton Q-tips work great for cleaning under the ejector pin on autos and other small places....Break Free also does the job both for a powder solvent and lube.
 
I have a harbor freight less than a mile away, i generally don't go in there because people tell me how thrifty everything is in there and for things like tools i use Craftsman products.

Will have to check it out though if they have things i can use. Any other things in there of use to a gun owner?
