Hall County GA Sherriff's Office encounter

Recently, my wife and I were at my in-laws taking care of the horses while they were away. My wife accidently triggered the alarm. An officer responded in under ten minutes. Seeing the Squad Car turn down the drive, we met him on the front porch with our credentials and authorization to be there. Even though we were both carrying open, he seemed totally unruffled and very nice and professional. did a visual check of our papers and wished us a good day. A very pleasant experiance.

Am very surprised he did not disarm you first. You and yours must have honest faces, lol.

Why would he? I was speaking to our county sheriff's training officer last week and this subject came up. If there is no apparent reason to be afraid of the other person then the firearm is not an issue. There has to be a good reason to disarm the peaceful citizen.

NMH, I have been to your State, and find the people very nice and usually respectful toward one another. This could be why there is no reason to disarm a peaceful citizen. In Ohio we have no such respect, and people are usually out for themselves. If you open carry here (which is totally legal and has been as long as I can remember) You run the risk of not only being disarmed, but arrested for inciting panic, or any other trumped up charge the police can think of. I believe that is the reason most of us in the north are surprised when nothing happens. there is a big difference between the West and North East where people are concerned. Maybe that's why I carry concealed all the time, and love the West so much. I would rather spend the legal fee's on another gun.:pleasantry:

Duke, I'm glad you like my adopted state, for many of the reasons I do. Concealed does have a lot going for it as you say. I am split about half and half concealed and open.
I agree legal fees v a new gun the new gun wins every time!

I don't think so.....

Off the beaten path at a horse farm in SC holds very different carry concerns, connotaions and expectations than would say, a Walmart in Cleveland.

This is the same logic that the "anti's" use to defend taking away an individuals right to self protection in bigger cities. The fact is, you can be attacked ANYWHERE! That 2nd amendment holds no restrictions, and we should respect that.

So I take it you don't understand my meaning in the use of the terms concerns, connotations and expectations in this context.

What I think boomboy means C&L, is one can be attacked in the country by toothless trailer-park dwellers, as well as in the city by saggy pant wearing urban youth.

One should carry, and carry the largest caliber they can comfortably handle. A spare magazine, just in case extra rounds are needed.

boomboy, C&L is far from being an anti, you should see what he has in his gun safe. I am envious.
Our second amendment applies from sea, to shining sea.

GOD BLESS AMERICA.

Understand. My only point in this matter is you are more likely to have a bad LEO experience at a Cleveland Walmart than at a SC horse farm, WRT those concern, connotation and expectation things. Being that any given LEO will be more or less concerned about what he expects from a weapon wielder at any given place and time.

Remember what happened to the Marine at Costco?

That is all.

Come on, Cocked_been_Blocked, pay attention.

So I take it you don't understand my meaning in the use of the terms concerns, connotations and expectations in this context.

So I take it you never learned how to be polite as opposed to insulting? I further take it that, unless someone is in total lock-step agreement with you, they do not possess the intellectual ability to understand a simple sentence?

I completely understand your use of the terms. I will also repeat that those selfsame "concerns, connotations, and expectations" are used to further the anti-self protection argument by the anti-gun crowd. I mean that the phrase that you used is used EXACTLY, with only the locations changed, depending on the argument.

Frankly, I don't care how many guns one may have locked away in a safe. If you are not allowed to use those firearms in the protection of yourself and/or others, then they are nothing but expensive paperweights.

Unfortunately, IceMan, our second amendment is NOT applying from sea to shining sea. In fact, there is nowhere that allows citizens to exercise their second amendment right the way our forefathers envisioned. Alaska, Arizona, and Vermont come closest, but still fall short.

So I take it you never learned how to be polite as opposed to insulting? I further take it ....
Dude, you need to chill out. You literally attacked me and went off on a 2A rant for making a vauge reference to possible environmental aspects of LEO encounters.

Get a grip for cryin' out loud. :pleasantry:

I'm sorry, would you mind pointing out my attack? Additionally, is your aim to now ban discussion of the 2A, as you tried so remarkably unsuccessfully with another recent subject?

Like I said, as depicted in you avatar: get a grip.

Thread hijack: FAIL

Is this rant directed at me? Because if it is, I have no idea what you are talking about. You might as well go practice your cyber bullying on somebody else. You're obviously not very good at it, need more practice.

Actually, the horse farm is in Ga, Hall County, not SC. In SC, I have jurisdiction. In Ga, I do not. Also, I do carry in WalMart, resturants, etc. in Cleveland, Dahlongea, Gainesville,Chatsworth, Dalton, Elijay, Canton, Perry and many other portions of Ga. This is my first encounter with a Ga LEO in which I needed to Identify. Also remember, he was answering an alarm in progress. This raises the bar.

This is a good experience and reiterating others, a good officer. What's weird is that LEO encounters and attitudes in similar situations are so varied across so many jurisdictions and so unpredictable that we find it necessary to bring the good experiences to light. We honor and practice our constitutional God-given (not state-given though IT takes credit) right to peacefully arm ourselves with fear and trembling that an overlooked legal technicality or interpretation will send us to jail. That's the big story behind every one with a happy ending.

I just had a traffic stop in Macomb County, MI. After I handed my License & etc over, I realized I had not informed the officer of my carry permit. I pointed it out to the officer and said "I forgot to mention --". He glanced over it and said "Yes, I see it" and walked back to his car. He did not mention it again, nor ask about a firearm. I was very impressed by his calm, professional attitude.
