Hi everyone, new to the site. I'm currently going to be moving and have no spot for guns in home... i have a safe that I haven't yet used but i was wondering if i could store my guns in it without ruining them in the winter or during this hot to winter time of days here in austin tx.

Any info is appreciated i tried looking info up but there was no real answer figured it wouldn't hurt to ask.

You already know it’s never a good idea to leave something like that outside especially if it’s visible like a gun safe. Obviously the crooks will know exactly what it is and that’s the first thing they want so keep it out of sight. to keep the moisture and humidity down you might run a light bulb constantly inside or at the least some sort of humidifier . If you can’t run power in there someway that you might want to keep a few of those dollar store water absorbers and make sure they don’t fill up and stop working.
Personally unless I had an arsenal I’d bring them in the house and stick them under the bed bury them in the back closet before I leave anything like that outdoors. If the kid problem just disable each of them so they can’t be accidentally fired. There’s always room to stash things like that in the back corners of closets if you look around. Of course either way keep them properly oiled.

I completely agree with you, this will actually be in a covered garage, I am moving and moneys tight I am selling about ten guns and only keeping about 6, the place I'm moving into is practically a shack, if I had the money I would pay a range of someone to hold them for me but I'm gonna be tight on money till I pay my place off and that's why I'm looking for the best solution for them.

I had a gun safe in the garage. It was securely bolted to the floor and wall. The garage is attached to the house, and is not heated or air conditioned, and is covered by the house alarm system. Had that for a couple years, and kept my guns ok as long as I regularly took them out and oiled them. Also I didn't let anything lay on the 'carpet' in the gun safe, everything was resting on hard non-porous surfaces (plexglass or Formica), since I did have problems at first with guns laying on the carpet, the side in contact with the carpet started to get a little rust. Moved the safe inside as soon as I could.
