Gun safes

Folks,

Any suggestions for a good gun safe. I only have two pistols and two long guns.

Thanks!

Depends on how secure you want it. Are you looking to keep your children out and slow up any potential crooks . If your looking to buy more firearms or store other valuables in the safe, you will want to invest in a decent safe. most "safes " that you see at walmart, Costco , Sams Club Dicks Sporting Goods , etc are actually home security cabinets in the ul listing label. It may have the S&G lock and the bolts in the door but it is not a home safe.

I have no children and no other valuables anyone would want (unless they love theology books and I'm not sure I could afford that safe lol.) I need one to keep criminals out and guns in.

That's an amazing video. I highly recommend it.

Glad it helped you. Keep an eye on the local Craigslist and you may find an older safe pop up. My safe is all 1/4 " steel and I paid about $1000 for it but that was the 1980's when I had my gun shop.At least you now know what to look for. I always tell students who ask me advice when they are buying more guns " Where are you keeping them?" once I get the answer I always suggest that they take the money and invest in a decent safe if they don't already have one.

Get a bigger better safe then you think you need. Even if it meens saving up a little longer. Then make it impossible for someone or several people to pick it up and walk off. I have mine bolted and epoxied to the floor of my garage.

No can do! I live in an apt and can secure it to a floor or wall. Any suggestions?

Since you live in an apartment, you'll have to consider weight. Since since you cannot secure it to the floor (don't understand why you can't secure it to the wall. You hand pictures don't you?) instead of going with a conventional safe that weighs anywhere from 500 to 2000lbs and MUST be anchored to prevent tipping and "take away" you might consider a hiding spot. But when you're making your decisions don't forge about securing the ammo along with the guns.

Do you have and 'extra' deep closets? Building a false back or side wall in a closet with a hidden closure can go a long way to prevent the unwanted eye from getting laid on your weapons. The hide it in plain sight also works. Go to the library and pick up a couple of large 'novel' typ books, inexpensive enough that you won't feel too guilty about removing the binder and jacket from them. Build a wooden box that will let the book binder be wrapped around them. Put your gun in it and put it on the book shelf in your living room. I've done it with a cigar box wrapped in a law book cover.

A friend has an entertainment center he modified the hold a Remington 870 in the sidewall and his 1911 in an under drawer slide/hide on one of the speaker shelves.

If you're looking for safety for the firearms including fire protection then there is no other better way than a steel and concrete walled safe with a good fire rating. I have and American Security safe. Relatively inexpensive and weighs in around 600lbs. It is bolted to a carpeted concrete floor and I don't think it's going anywhere.

Personally I stayed away from the 'snap together' safe kits for the fire arms because they have no fire rating. but they work nicely for the accessories and ammunition.

YOu might want to consider these. bed gun safe - Bing Images
