Gun Safe Question

Have been looking at gun safes. Leaning toward a Liberty Fat Boy Jr., but have a question about delivery. Based on your experiences how in H*** do they get them down one flight of stairs into my basement?

Twelve steps, 2X10 treads and stringers (2). Wt. 705 lbs. The steps seem to be very sturdy and they must be the way my 6'3" 390lb stepson used to stomp up and down them. lol.

I was thinking of bracing the steps for the delivery, using a couple of 2X4's.

Does anyone else have a heavy safe in the basement? And, if so, just how did they get the darn thing down the stairs? I'm speaking of the actual physical process. Thanks for any advice.

You can pay extra to have it put in place, and they bring it on shoulder straps or a stair dolly.

The width of the safe is more the problem. Measure all the opening and the radius around corners. I had to pull doors and moldings off for my safe's. I live in a rambler so I don't have any basement delivery advice to give you, but the idea of bracing the stairs is not a bad one. Don't forget that you are moving 700+ pounds of safe and at least 300+ pounds of movers on the stair treads at the same time. Good luck to you!

Don't forget one more important thing as well, THE DOOR USUALLY COMES OFF.

My safe is 515 pounds and the door is 225 of that.

If you are at 700, I'd guess the door is close to 300 or 350.

Chances are the delivery guys know what they are doing.
One thing I have learned. Ask them what they think. Don't tell them how to do it.l
Show them the doors and the steps. Then say What do you think? They will do just fine.
It is kind of like asking the Maintenance guy at work, If you call him in and say I need this picture hung right here. He will hang it right where you told him. Even though he drives the nail through the HVAC or the Plumbing.
If you say I need this picture hung on this wall, he will know exactly what to do and do it well.
Don 't forget to anchor the safe to the floor.

I've got quite a bit of experience moving large, heavy objects up and down stairs. (Think upright piano going to the 4th floor of an apartment building). Laying a couple 2x4s down on the steps and sliding the thing down on its side may be the best way to go. Just make sure you and at least one other person use straps or ropes to lower it down and don't let anyone get underneath it. If 700 lbs of safe gets out of control and falls on someone, it's just game over for them. If you are worried about scratching the paint (which you should be if your basement is damp or humid at all), then you may want to put blankets down on the 2x4s. Hand dollies are great, but again, make sure you don't tip that thing back on yourself. I would suggest tipping it off the stairs onto some sort of 4 wheeled cart to position it where you need it. Then lift and remove the cart. Also, basements in general are susceptible to water. If that's a concern for you, think about where you will be putting it, and if you maybe want to have it elevated in some way. Even if you don't elevate it, I would recommend some sort of vapor barrier if it's going to be sitting right on concrete. Concrete continually releases moisture as it ages, and water can also seep into the concrete from the ground below. Not enough to make standing water, but enough to rust something out after 10 years or so.

They use a motorized stair dolly. Some have a floating (air cushion) dolly for moving across the floor.

Double ditto on checking corners & turning radius.

Move everything to clear the path.

Try to place it near an outlet for interior lights, heater / dehumidifier, chargers , etc..

Just found this thread, I posted a few days ago, thinking about the same safe. Did you buy it and how do you like it?
