gun registration, yes or no?

Just curious whats the difference between when i buy a new gun at the store and them knowing the serial number but then also handing me the form to "register" it. I got into a "discussion with my fiance today and she seems to feel i need to register my guns especially the ones i use to carry concealed but my opinion is its noones business what type or amount of guns i have. Ive gotten my ccw, been through all the background checks, etc. im just curious what the real difference is in "registering" them considering the stores i bought them from already have the serial numbers on recors. And is there an easy way to explain to her way im not registering any of my guns?
Only one county in NC had gun registration, and the General Assembly passed a bill this year which invalidated that.

You will fill out a 4473 form when you buy a gun from a FFL dealer, the that is not registration, in fact the form is kept and stored by the dealer or LGS where you purchased the gun. They do have to keep it on file for 20 years, and *-IF-* the ATF wants to examine the forms they can.

There are a few states that do not respect the US Constitution that have a gun registration, but the majority do not.

Talked to a guy at one of the local breweries this evening that was from Florida, and he was telling me about the 3 day waiting period and other hoops they have there to buy a hand gun. Took me about 10 minutes to buy my last handgun, a pure impulse purchase.

NC has also passed legislation that makes the names of CHP holders private, and cannot be released to the media or anyone else, except law enforcement agencies.

FWIW: that 3 day wait period is for those who DO NOT have a CWFL. the reason FLA has this rule is because a good sized part of the population are from the liberal NE and Middle states, and unfortunately they forget the big reason they moved to FLA was to get away from the high taxes and other problems caused from liberal governments.
moral to the story, be wary because NC is following the same path, Charlotte and the tech triangle area are becoming infested with northern liberals

Sort of like the "carpetbaggers" of old?

I suspect that if I went to the sheriff to register my guns, he would look at me like I had two heads.

One county in the state did require gun registration (Durham county, NC), but the state legislature pass a bill this year that did away with that hold over from the Jim Crow era.

I read that the Durham County Sheriff said that in all the years that guns were registered the registration hadn't help solve one actual crime.

That is because people that would register guns (if required) are NOT the ones that will commit a crime. If a gun was stolen to commit a crime with, the trail would stop at the registered owner.

NY has registration and it's a pain in the ass. When you buy a new handgun you have to fill-out a form with the serial # and give them $5.

Trust me, I understand the problem with the transplanted liberals, as we are neck deep in them here in Asheville. Desperate to get away from the oppressive taxes and government of the NE and MW they tend to bring it with them. Plus we also share the snow birds, or more correctly what we call half-backs. The ones that moved to FL, and can't take the summer heat/humidity and come "half-way back" for life in the much cooler mountains.

There are also a few counties that have 5 business day waits too if you don't have the Concealed Weapons or Firearms License. Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach to name 3. But with the license if the call in or computer check is good, you walk out with your purchase. Funny thing is, I can get ex-gov't rifles shipped right to my house with just a background check being run by the Gov't. And no waiting period even if I didn't have the license. And yes, we are infested with liberal gun haters in M-D. Just not in the part I live in.

In NYC and the counties surrounding it you need to get a permission slip from the local barneys with the model and serial number of the gun before you can purchase it, in some jurisdictions this can take weeks or even months, I forgot what they charge for the permission slip

you are correct, the state wait period is 3 days, some counties (notably the libturd NY infested ones) have local 5 day wait periods.

Don't register them if you don't have to.

Down here, we have to register everything (even air rifles), and criminals have got a hold of the information via leaks and other means, which has lead to a significant amount of gun owners being home invaded and robbed for their firearms.

I second what everyone else has said regarding your fiancé as well.

Not sure how NYC is doing it now. Upstate you file an amendment form and a $5 fee to the county clerk. They give you a new license with the gun listed on it. It traditionally took about a week but a little longer since the CCW permit rush hit NYS. Doing it in person speeds it up a little. It's a stupid concept. The damn thing fell overboard fishing anyway.
