It’s a proven fact, where there’s concealed gun’s allowed, the crime rate drops dramatically.

You might want to read that again. It has very little to do with concealed guns. Please tell us which 25 states allow you to buy a gun, conceal it and walk down the street with no permit of any kind.

Missouri will allow you buy a gun and wear it open carry. Not conceal carry without a permit. And walk down the street

In SD you need no permit for open carry.

Not that I see it being done much around here. Matter of fact, I've never seen anyone OC outside of the LGS workers.

I think the statement in the poster is a bit disingenuous - what portion of the nation's population live in the 25 state where one can't carry without a permit? I think things are rather tipped that way.

I would say that John Lott seemed to have answered this question years ago. What I don't recall is whether he or anyone else has compared this effect between open v. concealed carry. That would seem an interesting comparison, getting at the mechanisms underlying the effect. Is it seeing potential victims armed, potential defenders, or the uncertainty of whether anyone might be armed?

That would be tough to come up with any kind of accurate result. How do you quantify how many attacks never occur because the criminal sees a gun and decides to move on with the potential victim never knowing it occurred? It's difficult enough just quantifying the self defense situations where a gun is actually used to defend against an attack in progress.

I haven't researched it, but I would venture to guess that immediately following the relaxation of gun control laws, the crime rate will undoubtedly go down, the number of citizens who carry guns will rise to a peak and then drop off to a steady, lower level. Then the crime rate will start to rise again until it reaches a level that gains the attenction of the general population again and more people will arm themselves and the cycle will start over. Just 100% speculation on my part.

MO is only open carry in certain cities. There is no state preemption here and a lot of towns do not allow it. Its the entire reason I wasted the money on a CCW.

Vermont. No permit... Period.

Open carry or concealed carry with no permit allowed.

Go to guns store, fill out form, buy gun and ammo, load and carry how ever the hell you feel... Period

Pennsylvania is an open carry state. If your 21 for any hand guns, however 18 year olds can openly carry shot guns and riffles on there vehicles for hunting. $20.00 for a permit. You have to apply for the permit in the county you live in and wait 2 to 4 weeks. Then go to the county sheriff office where you pay and get you picture taken.

Yes but Vermont doesn't issue permits either which means if you are a Vermont resident you must get an out of state permit from some other state to carry outside of Vermont. There are several states that honor out of state permits only if you are a resident of the issuing state. This is not a good thing for Vermont residents traveling out of state. Vermont needs to get on board and start issuing permits.

No, the other 49, or is it 56, states need to get on board with Vermont's model!

It's definitely not 25 states. I believe the first post refers to states that allow unlicensed open carry. The picture does not specify "concealed."
