Gun micro vaults w/security cable for cars

I would bolt it down in your truck the wire cables are easily cut. As for a brand to get that is up to you.

I own two versions of the gunvault, the smallest one and the next level up (the electronic finger pad.) I don't think either would stop someone who seriously wanted to break into my vehicle to steal whatever might be in either.

But the greatest number of vehicle break ins are smash and grab - what can't be carted off quickly will be left behind. In those cases either gunvault will do the job.

I use the Center of Mass In-Car Safe, having one in each of our vehicles. As mentioned, they won't stop a determined thief, but then that theif has to know to bring cable cutters. Or have a Gerber/Leatherman type tool strong enough to cut the cables - I had to do this when one of the locks malfunctioned and I had to send it in for the Warranty. It took me about five minutes to cut the cable.

As an added bonus, these are great for hotel usage if you're traveling and don't want to leave your firearm in your vehicle.

The only reason I have one in my truck is for driving through the police state of Illinois. I never leave my firearm in it if I am not in the vehicle.

That is why bolting it down is better. As far as the gun safes keeping you gun protected a good strong screw driver and hammer or crowbar will get all of them open in under 5 minutes. They are made more for the smash and grab criminals if the thief is stealing your car and the safe is out in the open you can bet when the car is recovered your firearm will be missing and the gun safe dented and opened.

Sometimes you gotta go places where you have to lock up your pistol - like going in to the VA, LE stations, church, etc... In Arkansas - and a few other states to which I've traveled - you can't carry your firearm inside of specific facilities/businesses and your only other choice is to journey there unarmed. Neither of my vehicles are such that I can get the bolt-able type safes and mount them inside. Plus, I'm not usually leaving my firearm in my vehicle overnight, nor in a place where it's out of the lights of a parking lot.

While the ones I've seen might prevent a smash and grab thief, I don't see them surviving a determined attempt with a couple of pry bars. I recently gave one to my son so he could keep his carry pistol secure w/o having to unload and hide it when he wasn't carrying it.
