I agree with everyone here that this is a very dangerous and stupid ad. Being a gun owner brings on greater responsibility and even more so if you are a parent. I can't watch the video but the Blaze write up makes it sound like it is fairly easy for the kid to get the gun. If a gun owner finds themselves with that type of setup they need to rethink their set up for keeping a gun in the house. Hopefully those of us who are parents and gun owners will be insulted by they way this ad portrays us as gun owners and our inability to secure our own guns.
You are correct - I watched the video. It tries to inject an emotional appeal based on safety of children into the gun control debate, but it does a poor job of it with an inane story board.
However, it is just as obviously not about encouraging children to take their parent;s guns to school.
It's a dumb commercial, but those who are writing emails and letters and posts depicting it as a "take your parent's gun to school to turn them in" ad are just exhibiting..well how do I say this nicely...not at the range with a fully loaded clip.
It is just another inane attempt to use emotional appeal in the gun control debate, same as when some waves the flag, mom, and apple pie to oppose gun control.
Moreover, those who think the point of the commercial is to encourage children to take their parent's firearms and turn them into their teacher, and then openly complain of that depiction of the commercial, are simply giving the anti-gun control forces more ammunition for their side:
1. Those guniots are not intrelligent enough to perceive the obvious point of the commercial (whether or not they disagree with that point) so how can we trust them to own a firearm?
2. Of all the things they complained about, they seemed unconcerned that a child has unfettered access to a firearm.
We need pro-2A groups and individuals to think before flapping their lips.
