Piers Morgan likes to hold up Britain as the shining example of how gun control works. And while it may be true that their firearms-related murder rate is lower than ours (they had 59 last year, not 35 as he likes to say), their overall incidence of violent crime is far higher than ours. As of 2011, the US had an incidence of violent crime of a little over 400 per 100,000 population. Britain, on the other hand, had an incidence of over 2,500 per 100,000 population. I'm trying to track down what their overall murder numbers are. The EU declared Britain to be the most violent of all the EU member nations and issued a travel advisory against EU citizens visiting there. It is obvious that taking away firearms has led Britain to become a nation of victims.
Sure - that's an example we want to follow.
