Gun at 'Batman' causes stir, but no arrests
'Everyone stayed and watched the movie. Everybody was very cooperative'

(Cookeville Herald-Citizen News) COOKEVILLE (TN) –A man who entered a movie theater here last night to see the Batman movie was armed with a pistol and caused quite a stir, police said.

But he has carrying the gun legally, as were two other men there to see the move, police learned.

And though the film was stopped briefly and police officers entered the theater, it all ended peacefully, with no one arrested and no one upset, according to Cookeville Police Sgt. James Harris.

Yes, definitely more people should be carrying.

I wonder if anyone at the Colorado theater was carrying? But then again, if that idiot was firing off a AR, I would be hitting the deck even if I was carrying.

They must have been OC'ing, otherwise WHO would have known they were carrying? I'm not against it, but when you draw this much unneeded attention to yourself it isn't good for anyone.

I carry mine everywhere. The more I read this stuff, the more I cant justify not.

Have not been to the movies recently tho... But some folks at 7-11 gave me some looks when it was exposed. Smiled and hopped into the F350 with no incident.

wow. cookville is not that far from where i live. seems they over reacted for folks in this part of the country. suppose it is just time and place. usually don't have a problem here.

I'm gonna have to disagree..all those people in that theater just saw legal and sane gun owners. Police came, everyone was fine, no one was upset, a good number probably learned something new, that is good attention. Would you rather just have the criminals killing with guns to get the attention?

I am with Firefighterchen on this one, of course. The Brady Campaign and other anti-gun groups have no problem at all grabbing the media's attention to push their anti-gun propaganda down the throats of anybody who can be brainwashed into believing it. Of course every nut job criminal shooting people gets immediate media attention as well.

It seems to me like some attention NEEDS to paid to the law abiding citizen carrying a gun for self defense so that John Q. Public can see a positive image of a gun to offset the negatives that are out there every day.

Let me see....

In Michigan folks began a concerted effort to openly carry pistols about 6 years ago. And, although perfectly legal, it resulted in what some folks thought (and some folks still do think) was "unneeded attention".

Of course the media went crazy reporting all the times an open carrier got arrested for legally openly carrying a gun. But... not only did the folks who got arrested beat the rap... they sued ... and WON! Resulting in many police depts. being retrained... and even the State Police issued an update (MSP Legal Update #86... link below) but the really interesting thing is.........

All that sensationalized media attention about legally carrying guns ... even into (gasp!) schools!!!.... resulted in........ educating the people of Michigan that it is legal to openly carry guns. And that it is even legal to openly carry a gun in many places with NO "permit" required.

So the end result of all that "unneeded attention" was people all over the entire State! found out they actually do have the right to bear arms... and the folks who were "offended", although vocal, were in the minority......... and most importantly.... the right to bear arms was strengthened.

And none of that would have happened if everyone hid their guns for fear of... "unnecessary attention".

That figures..I went to college in Cookevile. The people are kind of strange there..lol. You used to measure the guns in Cookeville by how many per square foot.

Agreed!

One was open carrying. Two were concealed carrying. They made all three put their guns in their cars before returning to watch the movie. I would have demanded a refund and left.

Rhino: Why would you demand a refund? There was a sign posted, although it evidently "was not large enough to have been noticed easily."

I don't see the issue here -- three guys with permits were carrying their guns in a place that requests that patrons don't bring them in (while the sign perhaps was not as noticeable as it should be), and were asked to put them in their cars. Technically the movie theater could've kicked them out -- but it seems like everything worked out the way it should have. No one freaked out, and the situation was settled. To me, this seems like a reasonable conclusion.

Ugh. Briliant idea open carry fame addicts. Jerks.

I don't think I understand who you're trying to insult and what exactly you're referencing... please explain.

I wouldn't keep your hopes up...I don't think anyone understands the majority of what that guy tries to say...he is just too 'briliant' for us...

Just a bunch of dumb open carriers trying to get attention by doing something that lacked discretion. They got their 15mins cause the media reported on it. Brilliant. I would have left if I saw them cause I don't trust dumbassess. I bet they drove a thunderbird with a get'r done sticker on it. Baiters, master baiters.
