Growing gun culture in Australia

Had no idea that a gun club like this existed in Australia, a previous thread on this site reported the government not allowing sales of weapons and some cases buying back weapons from citizens thus crime rate was booming. What's the truth? What are the gun owner ship laws in Australia?

Cannot use self defense as a genuine reason to own a firearm.
To own a pistol requires 6 month probation and 6 competition shoots per year to maintain the licence.
To own a rifle or shotgun you need to own land (more than 50 acres) or be a member of a target shooting club.
To own a semi auto rifle (rim fire only) or shotgun you need to be a primary producer (farmer)
To own a semi auto rifle centrefire or any semi auto with a mag capacity of more than 5 rounds, you need to be a professional contract shooter.

Guns must be locked in the trunk of the car, unloaded, during transporting.
No CCW laws.

I thought Queensland was fairly liberal on their firearm laws. It was a long time ago that I looked into it (considering emigration). At the time, everywhere but Queensland was extremely tight, but their (QL) ownership, hunting, and target shooting laws were pretty open.

Glad to hear there's at least some talk of loosening it up for y'all.
