Ohio is a MUST NOTIFY state. I'm not certain that merely handing the officer your CHL is enough. He may just think you're handing him your Driver License, which is about the same size and looks vaguely similar. I would hand him the CHL and DL and also state that I am a permit holder and am carrying. As Massad said, though, there are lots of differing laws. Just be sure of your state -- AND of reciprocal states if you are travelling.
