got my Utah non resident conceal carry permit in the mail yesterday. i cant carry in my home state of NJ but will carry when i cross the bridges, wife and me like to take road trips. anyone want to share thier first carry experiences..jitters..butterflies..etc. thanks

For me the first store I walked into was a big hardware store. It was a little awkward even though I know I was/am within the law. I was also thinking can anybody see that I am carrying (I pocket carry, in holster a .38). That is about it, one can not carry lightly. Keep reading material on the subject. One thing person mention was they actually drive more cautiously now that they carry.

Armed Citizens' Legal Defense Network, Inc. is good place to learn more, they have good articles in their journal. Their forum (members only) is good on legal subjects. They also have a FB page, they are good about discussing facts instead of hype.

Congrads on getting your CCW I still feel bad for my Fellow CCWers from NJ It just does'nt seem to be Fair. Same feelings for Illionios Residents.

I reside in the Communist State of New York Where they Proceed to make you Jump through every single Loop hole just to get an CCW.

At least in the end you can get an Permit. I also besides having my New York CCW I've also Obtained my Florida, Pennsylvania & Arizona CCW's Giving me Every State that We travel too. I wish you well Is there any Chance you could get an Permit from your Home State of NJ?

How many Loop holes must you Jump Through? And are you legally allowed to own , Posses an Handgun in Jersy without an Permit ?
Just Curious Congrads again and welcome to CCWing Good Luck, God Bless

i think i will carry around my house and home to get used to it before i carry in public but first i need a good holster i did buy a holstered fanny pack and will practice drawing from that at home with my unloaded gun.... i think just simple stuff can be practiced at home like drawing and aiming with you unloaded gun
when i get a belt and crossbreed holster i will also practice at home to get used to the feel of it on my person and practice drawing from holster as well of course unloaded until i feel confident and comfortable enough to carry it loaded and concealed in public places
i sent off my application the other day and don't expect it back for 90 days so i have some time to get comfortable carrying and learn all aspects of the law and practice tactical techniques
but today i will practice pulling from that fanny pack which is all i have now to practice drawing from and prolly will be my first way to conceal carry until i get a good belt and holster which would be much better and quicker gear to draw from imo
be safe

from what i have read i would never get issued a ccw in NJ. its up to the descretion of the state and i know no one outside of law enforement has one. i can legally own rifles shotguns and handguns as long as they meet certain standards set by the state, no adjustable stocks, rifles not allowed more then 10 rd mags, handguns 15 rds.etc. i have a vault in my vehicle to properly stow my weapon when not in a friendly state. its a sin that the constitition of the united states reads that i can bear arms but my state gov can overide. i will play by the rules, eventually i will reside in a state that allows me to exercise my constitutional rights

Utah is a LOOONG ways away from NJ!

Congratulations! Don't worry about others' experiences. You will have your own jitters, butterflies in the stomach, etc. You'll get used to it in time. Just go about your normal way and try to forget that thing that seems to you like bulging at your side or wherever you put it, but be aware you now have something to protect yourself and your family from harm. Walk confidently, be confident in your stride and be aware of your surroundings before you get out of the door or your car...a quick scan goes a long way to being safe at all times.

Congrats on the permit!! I would highly reccomend a lot of dry fire practice, drawing, and reloading/malfunction drills, which it sounds like you're going to do, so kudos to you!! When I first started carrying I felt like everyone I passed knew I had a gun on my hip, but the sad reality is most people are sheeple and are oblivious to their surroundings. The comfort level will come with time and practice, and before you know it your gun will feel like just another piece of clothing to you. So, work on the drills and muscle memory and always be aware! Good luck on your journey.

Congrats on your Non-Resident CC permit.
I do recommend draw and re-holster practice along with dry fire practice, assuming you have a holster already?

As far as your first time carrying, just do it. You'll get over the jitters really fast.
My first time carrying was at a Denny's, I didn't think about it all that much, except just wondering if my firearm could be seen or not?

Congrats on the permit! Advice on NJ..move... I was never nervous carrying concealed, but the first time I oced was alittle uneasy.

Hello my brother from New Jerkistan good luck and welcome to the CCW world. I don't have my Utah permit but, have a Virginia and Florida one that covers all but one state I think and that is Minnesota. I will eventually get the Utah but for now what I have is sufficient.

In a two week wait for mine after going to downtown Tampa to the Regional Office of the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services with my wife and son (who also took the class with me and my 18 year old daughter). Typical state/county employees who looked like they hated their jobs and were bored out of their mind. The process was interesting though: 1) Present ID, training certificate, and check for $117. 2) Fill out online form asking for SSN, and other personal info, and answer all the questions about not being a felon 3) Have fingerprints taken 4) Have picture taken.

Barring the outcome of the Trayvon Martin case and the "stand your ground" law, Florida is CCW friendly.

glad to hear non-resident only took 57 days. mailed off my Utah resident app 2 days ago and hoping to have it by the 4th of July. $25 for class/training and $46 for application to BCI. only $71 to carry concealed is amazing.
