I've never seen a ghost, but I stayed in a Holiday Inn Express once.

Some mornings at around 4 am, my now padded rear stairs emit loud footsteps. Cat doesn't go into that part of the house. Neither does my wife.

This house only has the footsteps. A farmhand died working the fields in the 50s, nicest guy in the world according to the seller. All I've ever heard was footsteps and sometimes maybe the sound of a screen door???
The place I was referring to in the other thread was not quite as old as this one. It's actually a cute looking house, but living in it changes the way you see it. We moved in and immediately felt like we were being watched. The outside deck was the first place we saw the dude watching us, I thought he was a nosy neighbor. I'd never lived in the country before, so I assumed people there were different. We both dreamed about him constantly. Most of my dreams were of him stabbing me and I assure you the pain was real. The first experience I had was of him looking at me through the east side living room window. I ran outside to catch him and realized that there was nothing for him to stand on. That window is about 7 feet off the ground. The next one was a few weeks later when I was in the living room hooking up the satellite dish and my wife was upstairs. I closed the sliding door that lead to the deck and turned around because it was beginning to rain and it shot back open. I closed it again and it stayed shut. Other things would happen like when you closed the curtains before leaving the house, you'd turn around to double check and one or two would be back open but not tied. didn't matter who did it, mother in law, wife, my brother, you always had to redo it. The last straw was when my wife got up to go to the bathroom late at night and saw him standing in the shower. I was in the adjoining dining room playing PS2 and know for a fact that nobody got by me, and when I checked, gun drawn, the room felt really cold which was impossible because the rest of the house was almost 90 degrees. We started packing immediately and told them to keep the deposit. They didn't ask why we were leaving either.
I can describe him to a T. He looks about 45 years old, had black work boots, graying stubble and was bald. You could just sense anger before something would happen.

I don't know if I believe in ghosts, but a couple things in my life tell me they may exist. When my Dad died, I was at work. When I got the call, I sent home to tell my kids that their grandfather had passed on. As I started to explain, my 6 year old said, "I know daddy. Grandpa came and told me he had to go away, that he loved me, and he'd see me again." So I guess Dad made one last visit to his first and favorite grandchild.

I have so many experiences.
I was watching Finding Bigfoot one day and as I did I kind of wondered why these guys keep going when they never really find anything. Then they interviewed them and they said: "People ask me if I believe in Big Foot, Its not really a fair question, I don't Believe in Big Foot, I know they exist because I have seen them".
The same for me. I don't believe in Ghosts, I know they exist.
I get some kind of peace knowing for a fact that we do not end when our body has died. We go on forever.
You Don't have to believe if you know.

Interaction is the key. Get yourself a decent little Olympus recorder and begin to verbally interact. If you know how to upload the audio to your computer you can do some amazing things. We used Adobe Audition to drop hiss and background noise.
If a spirit is being seen or heard and its not a residual type chances are it will interact with you to the best of its ability.
Residual is just like an energy recording. The "Spirit" will be seen or heard doing the same thing over and over again, time after time, its just that, a recording of something that happened during its life.
An intelligent "Haunt" will react to your questions or will perform some kind of act. Something like tapping when you request that it do so. The level of its ability is sometimes a problem. Sometimes they just can't do what your asking.
i've never seen anything directly that i would attribute to a ghost, but i enjoy the shows. kind of odd since i cannot stand any religion and i know ghosts typically delve into the spiritual. my uncle killed himself and his family continued to live in the house. they would tell me about footsteps that ended where he did it, smell him in different places of the house, and my aunt even claimed to see him and talk to him (could have been purely grief). my cousin and i wanted to go and investigate the house when wasnt being rented, but never got around to it before we moved away.

Familiar spirits are indeed very real. (I recently had to help a family who had been deceived and afflicted by what they thought where ghosts.)
As a healing & deliverance minister I have had several encounters with various demonic & deceiving spirits. Don't be fooled; the "spirit" world exists. There are forces for good and forces for evil. The Bible tells us how we can tell the difference. The Bible also tells us how we can come against the ones known as "snakes" (aka "deceiving" spirits) and "scorpions" (aka "afflicting" spirits).

I have had several experiences. My Wife is Psychic, so I hear a lot of stuff that happens to her. She doesn't like it either. We actually have a Ghost living with us. It came into the house with a chair my Wife bought at a yard sale. An almost brand new chair for only ten dollars. Now we know why it was so cheap. We have had several experiences with this Ghost that were actually comical.

You need to be careful speedbump. What you think is a friendly ghost is actually a familiar spirit. As long as you entertain it you will continue to live in deception of what the spirit world is truly like.
I spent several years as a psychic & medium while I was involved in the occult. It's all good until you discover the "TRUTH" & ask them to leave and have a confrontation. That's when you discover (to the detriment of many), the power & gift some people believe they have is "eventually" revealed to be nothing more than an illusion. (Unfortunately for some, that discovery comes too late to save them.)
Fortunately, I discovered early that "psychic" gifting is actually a "perverted" and false gift of the enemy!
The TRUE gifts from GOD are the "Gift of Prophecy" and the "Gift of the Word of Knowledge". Among other "GIFTS", these are the TRUE gifts that come from a relationship with the Holy Spirit in Christ Jesus.
A TRUE gift of God will always, ALWAYS point to Jesus the Christ and the Holy Spirit. (This is the way to know who/what the spirits are that you encounter!)

I don't entertain it, it entertains me sometimes. Like the time he smacked my Brother-in-law on the back of his head. He turned around and there was nothing there. He also hid my Sister-in-law's Levi's in our paper pile by the Fireplace. I didn't find them for months. I know this sounds like I'm slightly deranged, but it happens just the same. He has also hidden things from our Curio cabinet. We would come home and notice one thing missing. Then another and after several things came up missing, it stopped. They were mostly pictures of relatives, knick knacks etc. There have been other things too. But nothing that would raise any concerns.

This is indeed one school of thought. However, Over the years I found this to not be the case.
Check with your Catholic Church for a more genuine accounting.
And No, I'm not Catholic.

Fortunately Many Presidents have reported seeing spirits in the White House. One report was actually of Abraham Lincoln.
I'm not sure the Ghost thing is a stone they are going to be willing to toss.
