Good protection without going overboard.

Now I'm not against anyone owning as many guns as they want. But many people get carried away with the house guns, carry guns etc. If you are looking to defend your home then have a gun, be it shotgun or pistol or revolver, that you are comfortable shooting and have confidence in. Having three shotguns and six pistols/revolvers for defense is not neccessary. For home defense have one main gun which you feel confident will stop a threat. If you want have one backup gun. These guns should be locked and loaded so they are ready if you need them.

As for carry guns, I see no problem having 3 or 4. As long as you are efficient with all of them. I myself have three pistols which are all carry guns and also house guns. I feel the idea is to get a battery of guns which you have confidence in and use them for any protection you need. I myself don't differ between house guns and carry guns. All three of my guns are available to shoot you whether it is at home or out in public.

There is simply NO reason AT ALL not to have as many guns as you want and can afford.

There is no less justification for having five rifles or five shotguns as there is for having five pairs of shoes and five shirts.

Well Deanimator not everyone wants or has 10 pairs of shoes or 20 shirts.

Some people are content with a certain number of things. I own three guns but I feel completely satisfied with them. I can enjoy admiring other peoples guns but I don't covet them. I have no real wants for other guns. Why should I when all three of mine are good shooters and dependable? I can protect myself quite well with them. I am not a competitive shooter or big on shooting ranges. I break my guns in and use them for carry/home defense. I fire maybe 50 rounds thru them every other month.

This is a totally hypocritical post.

You are ok with having multiple carry weapons but think otherwise about having multiple home defense guns.

It could be the beer but the OP makes absolutely no sense to me.....so whats the point here? I can have guns but there should be stipulations?

Based on that logic, people should also not exercise their right to free speech unless they "need" to. And while we're at it, no one should be allowed to earn more money thea they "need" or own more cars or houses than they "need." All this excess, unnecessary materialism encourages greed and it must be stopped! course I'm just being sarcastic, but you guys get the point).

This would be the world Obama is trying to create.

I told my wife I will stop buying different guns when she stops buying different pairs of shoes for each outfit

needless to say, I will never stop buying guns

This really makes no sense.

We get carried away with owning too many guns.
But you are not against that.
But you think we should only have 1 home defense gun.
But you have 3 handguns.
But 3 shotguns is unnecessary.
But all of our guns need to be ready to go.
But we shouldnt have any that we arent experts with.
But we are allowed 1 backup gun.
But 3 or 4 handguns is okay.
But 6 handguns or revolvers is unnecessary.

I have many, if I can afford many more, and I want many more, I will get many more.

Why does it matter what the "many" are? Whether guns, or acres of land, or friends, or cars, or charities to which I give, or books, or......?

I dunno about rest of you - but a gun in each room (or two guns in each room) that isn't occupied by people who shouldn't be around guns! (felons/kids who dont know better/mentally unstable people) etc.. :P
Anyhow two guns in each room of a house is perfect.. or even a few more so long as your not more then 3-5 feet away from one at any given time. when seconds count, the gun at hand is better then one locked in closet or gun safe XD

to the op; after going from 1 extreme to the other, and carrying since 86, this is my arsenal at this time, kimber ultracarry + cdp, never leaves my side, .45acp. s&w 686+ .357, on shelf in closet. kimber ultra carry in .45acp hidden near front door, high up,s&w, model 60 chiefs special, hidden in the garage near my gun working bench. as for long guns, .20 gauge mossberg, 12 gauge 870, and a yugo underfolder ak. these are stored in safe in closet, but can be accessed in under a minute from most places in the house. all are kept fully loaded and beyond access and knowledge of all the grandkids who are either living here, or visiting all the time, when i ran a gunshop in the 90's, in virginia beach,va, i owned over 75 firearms at one time, most were safe queens, but as i lived alone, in a crime infested area, there was always a gun within reach, besides the one on my side. gladly those days of living in fear are over.
in my opinion, buy what you feel needed, have enough ammo for practice and defense, and practice with all your weapons as often as possible to become proficient in all their abilities, follow all safety, local, and federal laws. should be good to go. peace through strength, bikerlarry

You forgot the other part where he said he shoots 50rds every other month, but no one should own one that (s)he isn't "efficient" in.

Anyway, the whole post is kind of.. stupid. Do you have more than one TV in your house?

Hmm.. we're entitled to our choices because we have rights, and quite frankly because we can. If a person wants 50 different defense firearms, then so be it; this is America.

If I had three guns, that would cover me for bullseye competition... and NOTHING else.

That'd leave me with AT BEST one carry gun, a Springfield M1911 with Bomar sights.

That would mean no more:
  • service rifle
  • long range
  • concealed carry
  • collecting
  • hunting
Personally, I don't care have if YOU have three guns, thirty or NONE.

However, your publicly presented argument for some arbitrary self-imposed limit on the number of guns owned is to put it charitably, "facile".

I don't play golf and do not own a SINGLE piece of golf paraphernalia (apart from a bag cart for carrying long range rifles and gear to and from the firing line). For some unaccountable reason, I don't go onto golf forums and tell people they own too much golfing stuff.

Go figure...
