I will be heading down to Florida later in the month. With a Ky ccdw i don't see any issues Georgia and Florida both Honor Ky permits. I am just unsure about carrying on the beach. Florida says something about not carrying in Port Authority area is the beach a port authority area. Is there anything that i am missing. we will be staying in Florida for some. Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

The port is typically where the cruise ships come in, so like the airport. Most of the beaches have websites with rules posted.

On the other hand, given state preemption, those rules mean nothing if they conflict with state law. Local municipalities can't legally establish their own gun ordinances.

Howdy,

As a big vacation person I always read all I can about the state or states that I will be traveling to and through while on vacation.

Last year we went to Alaska so I read their laws, and all the TSA and airline regs on transporting a handgun.

This year it looks like a road trip to DC, VA Beach, maybe NYC, Niagra Falls, etc. and I know a couple of the places, like DC are "no gun zones".

I been to 42 states and 25 different countries but I've always avoided DC because I could NOT take my gun.

Read, read and read some more. Google is your friend.

Have a safe and fun trip.

Paul

this is correct, port areas for some odd reason have their own set of restrictions.
as for beaches unless the beach is in a WMA there are no restrictions in additions to the firearms laws.

Port areas are commercial berthing for ships. Beach areas are usually owned by the city/county are regulated per their own code. As Stengun sated, read, research and research some more for the are you'll be staying at. OC is not allowed in FLA except for certain instances. None of those are for a beach visit. If in doubt ( I know I'll get some blow back on this) call the sheriffs office and enquire. Or again, read FLA statues concerning conceal carry. As place to start (CHAPTER 790 WEAPONS AND FIREARMS) Statutes & Constitution :View Statutes : Online Sunshine

If in doubt ( I know I'll get some blow back on this) call the sheriffs office and enquire.

1. blowback - not blow back (even though my spell check underlines it, Merriam-Webster has it as one word.)
2. sheriff's office - unless there is more than one sheriff in the same office, then it would be sheriffs' office.
3. Spell check also needlessly underlines enquire, which is certainly a properly used alternative to inquire.
4. Call the sheriff's office and inquire about firearms laws and you will likely get the opinion of the person answering the phone, which may or may not bear any resemblance to what the actual statute is.

I'm sorry, mappow, I just couldn't resist :-)!

in addition to his grammatical errors in FLA only the state can regulate firearms, Beach areas are usually owned by the city/county are regulated per their own code. it would be against FLA statutes for any city/county to regulate any firearms on any beach

I'm hiding from the winter in Florida. Will be here 2 1/2 to 3 months. I carry 2 concealed snubs everywear, beach included. No problems.
