Glock .380 autos for LEO only!?

I wanted to get my hands on a Glock in .380 auto, but according to Glock's own website it's only available to LEO's...
WTF?

Scratch that thought...
Apparently the Glock's .380 pistols dimensions are exactly the same as either the Glock 19, Glock 26 & Glock 27. Doesn't seem to make much sense to me to even want to consider carrying the smaller .380 round if the sidearm itself is not going to be more concealable.

I think that a 'smaller framed' Glock in .380 auto would definately be a very hot ticket item.

Don't worry....it won't be long 'til they're available to civilians one way or another. There's no law stopping a middle-man from selling to non-LEOs, or a LEO from selling one to you. I know enough cops to get one if I wanted (2 are in the fantasy football league I run).

The recoil would probably be next to nothing.

That's very true!
But personally I would prefer a smaller framed Glock pistol in .380 auto over the less recoil.
I actually like it when there's a little 'snap' to my sidearms 'bite'.
I could even see a smaller framed Glock in .380 auto making it's big 'Hollywood Debut' in the next James Bond or Mission Impossible films. Now that would be pretty cool i.m.o.

I wanted to pick one up. Guess that ain't happening. I dont think it's glock. It's gotta be those whacky anti gun, wild kamoda dragon hugging group stopping it.

I almost quoted your OP as saying you wanted to get your hands on one, and then just say, "Why?" after visiting your link. I noticed the dimensions while I was there, and the weight wasn't competitive with any other .380 I've ever considered buying either. But I figured to each his own, you had your reasons, and didn't comment on that.

I still think it's either a mistake, or perhaps ordering directly from Glock brings in restrictions on us proletariat concerning importing of weapons? I don't know, but it doesn't seem right in any case.

The Glock pistols in .380 do not have the minimum number of points required to be imported under ATFE regulations. Any firearm being imported into the US has to meet ATFE guidelines. If you notice the "competition" trigger on the G23 (grooved) compared to the trigger of the G22 (smooth). Minute changes need to be made to the pistol so they would meet the guidelines set by the ATFE for import into the US.

Not sure if I'd be too keen on owning any .380 pistol. I would much rather Glock develop a revolver. :-)

A little research seemed to confirm this. Learn something new every day. Silly ATF rules. Still, there doesn't seem to be a law against owning one....just importing them outside of the current regulations.

It is silly that they're only available to LE only. Especially when their other models are allowed and other .380s on the market, Walther, Bersa, etc being allowed. Glock has a factory in the states like the others. I don't understand either. I haven't looked up the criteria, but I wonder if they put adjustable sights on them like B-West did on the IJ70, if it would be allowed. Glock has a simple adjustable sight for the other models. It would be practical for those that are recoil sensitive to even 9mm. And to keep in the world market, they may sell in south America where civilians can't own handguns in the calibers used by the military or police.

For what it's worth here is a link to the form to import a pistol. Glock 26 and 27 don't have enough points as they are sold here. Glock ships them with drift adjustable target sights to gain 5 points and then they are removed here. A 380 gets the same points as a 22 Long Rifle which isn't much. This law was passed supposedly to keep the Saturday Night Specials out of the Country.

The 380 Glocks are the same physical size as the sub compact and compact 9mms 26, 27, and I think the 19, so why would you want a 380 pistol that size ?..........I you do not care for the currint line of super small 380s, ck out a Bersa 380 good size gun, operates very well, and ver reasonably priced, and nowhere near the size of a Glock

The Glock 19 would be the same size as a Glock 23, which are both "compact" pistols. The Glock 26 and Glock 27 are smaller "sub-compact" pistols.

Yes, I know this as I have one of each, 26, 27, 19, 23, I was just not sure as to exactly what sizes they made the Glock 380 in, but I do know they are the same size as the 9mms

It doesn't have to make sense to me. If you want it that is enough. My DD 214 will get me police and military pricing at the local contract store. If you don't have a DD 214 then you know someone that does. Also any friends that are police, military, corrections, or probation could help you.
