Glock 19 Gen 4: non perfection. Now PERFECTION

Update: Added a youtube vid today

Well guys, Today i purchased a Glock 19 Gen 4. Even after reading about all the problems with the recoil springs and ejections issues, I bought it anyway.

Mine came with the latest spring that is stamped 0 4 3. Supposedly this is the latest spring that was supposed to fix all the issues.

Bull crap I say.

Let me say im no stranger to Glocks. I bought my first Glock 27 .40 when i turned 21. That was 7 years ago. I have put well over 4000 rounds through it and have never, and MEAN NEVER, had one single failure from the very first round. I trust my life on it. I have shot plenty of Glock 19 gen 3s and never had any issue with any of the 115 gr typical range ammo. NONE never.

So after reading the review that the new springs currently being shipped fixed the problems i went ahead and purchased the gun this morning.

I brought it home took it out of the box and went out to shoot. I started with a 100 round box of Winchester white box 115 grain fmj. First shot, the case ejected and hit me right in the middle of the forhead. Continued with the rest of the magazine, 3 FTEs right off the bat in the first 15 rounds. Out of the entire 100 rounds i had over 15 FTE's. Of all the rounds that did eject, it was pitiful. Some even ejected forward out in front of me, some barely ejected, some ejected normal.

So after that, i took the gun inside and stripped all the new copper lube that was on the gun and put real oil on.

Went back out, shot my second 100 rounds of the same 115gr white box fmj. I had a few less FTE's, but still over 10.

Next i shot 50 rounds of 147 gr Winchester white box JHP's. Out of those 50 rounds they seemed to eject better and i only had 1 FTE from the entire 50 rounds. However, the ejection was nothing near as strong as my Glock 27 .40.

So all in all I went though 250 rounds today, the results are pitiful for Glock. What should I do. The shop I purchased it from has a G19 Gen 3 on the shelf right now. Im thinking i should at least fire 500 rounds to see if the spring lightens up enough to resolve the issues.

ok, so wait a minute.

Your trying to break in a Glock? what is wrong with that picture. I'm not bashing Glock.

You can still get Glocks that are 3rd Gen. I Would "break it in" and then Call Glock and see if you can get a Gen3 or return it.

Suck for you sir.

Back march my wife and I got a gen 4 19, as of today there has been well over 1000 rds threw it, and not one single hiccup of any kind from the first bang, we have 7 Glocks and it about the same story with all of them, and my wife's a little women, and has a problem with limp wristing at times but has never had a problem with the Glocks,.......... send your gun to Glock, they will fix it.......

Breaking in a gun means getting the dust off of it as it sat in a box, having an opportunity to clean it and oil it effectively, putting rounds through it, making sure there are no minor problems from manufacturing, etc. It is just like how cars will have problems when they are not used for a long time because they like to and need to be run, they were built for being used. If I didnt drive my car for a year and then I decide to drive it an it has problems starting up and is pretty stiff, I wouldnt call it broken or cheap, it needs to be broken in again.

Glock Gen 4, now about 400 rnds through it. The first 100 or so with original recoil spring, the next 300 +/- with "updated" spring. No hiccups with it.

Here is where I got the spring: Link Removed

As many Glocks as there are out there with a very, very, very high percentage of them good-to-go out of the box with no ammo finickyness, as apposed to many 1911's or Kahr's for example, we will still hear of a Glock now and then with issues. A true testiment to Glocks reliability is the swiftness of the non-glockers to "nanny-nanny-boo-boo" Glock when a problem does arise with one as they must feel they need to get on it as soon as possible as the next opportunity may be awhile...

As for me, I'm excited to see that Springfield Armory's XD line, XDM's in particular, are proving to be real contenders for the level of reliability Glock is known for. SA is an American company!! I have an XDM40 and am proud of it.

Thanks for all the replies. Im going to give the gun until at least 500 rounds and see how it goes. Perhaps I will try a different type of ammo. This is my first 9mm iv ever owned. What are some of the better 9mm range roundsj other than WWB?

Update: Just went out and shot 100 more rounds of WWB 115gr, and 25 rounds of Hornady Critical Defense 115Gr. Out of the 100 WWB I had 7 FTE and about 15 cases hit me in the face.

Shot the Hornady's with no fte's but the ejections was still very weak and eratic.

So after watching this chicks youtube vid, She purchased the modified gen 3 recoil spring from Glockmiester.com and said it solved all her problems.

I just placed an order for one and will try it out when it arives.

Glockmeister Stainless Steel Recoil Assembly For Gen 4 G19, 23 and 32-www.glockmeister.com

I bought my 19 gen 4 back in February of this year, factory recoil spring, 5 different brands of ammo from white box to personal defense ammo, and not a single issue. You might have a lemon.

There are two types of gun owners, those that own Glocks and those that are vastly inferior to those that own Glocks. If feel sorry for those poor saps in the latter catogory.

I feel sorry for poor saps in the former group. I think they are the same ones who think Bondo is the right way to fix a car dent. I had a plastic gun once also, then I turned 12. Plenty of good American guns. Don't need an import.

I just placed an order for a 1000 round case of Speer Lawman115 gr. For anyone that doesnt know, Speer Lawman is one of the hotter range 9mm rounds on the market. Rated for 1200 fps muzzle velocity, it packs quite bit more punch than WWB, UMC, Federal Champion and most of all the standard 115gr range 9mm. Im going to see if it ejects better since it should provide faster rearward slide velocities. BTW i orderd it from Target Sports USA | Discount Ammunition Online | Ammo For Sale | Free Shipping Ammunition for $215 with free shipping for $210. Hopefully 1000 rounds of stronger ammo will break this gun in and get it ejecting correctly.

Also my single recoil spring from Glockmiester should be here friday. I will do a review on it as well.

Everyone, I just got off the phone with Glock tech support. I explained that i have the newest spring assembly and it still has terrible ejection. He informed me that Glock has redesigned the ejector for the Gen 4 19. He is emaialing me the infor to send it in to them.

Another update.

Today I recieved my order of Speer Lawman. Let me tell ya, that is some HOT range ammo. Feels like its got just as much recoil as .40.

Anyway, today I put 100 rounds of the Speer Lawman through the gun. It definitly cycles the slide 100% better. I had no jams or stove pipes at all. It did eject the casings with much more force HOWEVER, the ejection is still all over the place. With the more powerful charge of the speer lawman, it was ejecting casings straigt up in the air and the would land on my head. lol. Well at least its not going to put my eyes out.

One thing i did notice today is that all the casings were dented pretty bad on the edge. So i took one of the empty casings and put it in the chamber. I pulled the slide back to see how the ejector pushed on the round. Sure enough, the ejector pushed the empty casing against the side of the slide frame. I am uploading another vid to youtube to show you guys.

Ok here is my video i just posted on youtube about my ejector issues after talking with Glock. Please watch and tell me what you guys think.
