Giving a pistol to a family member in another state

I live in Georgia and want to give a firearm to a family member in NJ. ATF says I can send it to a gun dealer in NJ, where my family must be fingerprinted and apply for a permit to purchase before picking up the firearm. P2P takes up to 4 months. NJ state police tells me I can not ship it directly to a gun dealer - I have to have a gun dealer in GA ship it directly to a gun dealer in NJ then register it with the local PD. Advice/suggestions?

I would have a Ga. gun dealer ship to the N.J. dealer.
Joisey is a crazy state. You need to cover your butt.

Yeah, I would ask your family member to move to Georgia! All kidding aside, NJ is very strict and has some crazy restrictions so make sure you have all your i's dotted etc. Once you find a dealer in NJ willing to do a transfer I would ask them what you and your family member need to do. If its a reputable dealer they'll be able to help you.

It might be easier to get him a gift certificate at his local gun shop. He will need finger printing and permits anyway. This will skip shipping state to state.
Just a thought.
