Carrying at home/private property

If my brother gifted me a gun would it be legal for me to carry it concealed or open in my home and on my property? It would be for home use only and never taken into public or off my private property. I ran into a crazy meth head that was extremly violent in my garage a few weeks back and having a handgun on me at all times while I'm at home would make me feel alot more at ease after that. Btw I would not have **** that person if I had a gun at the time because he came at me with his fists not a weapon but if he had a weapon or a gun I would have no second thoughts. I'm not no violent person that just wants to hurt somebody unless it would be totally justified. The reason I dont get one myself is because I have severe social anxiety disorder and I honestly never leave my home. I cant bring myself to leave my own property. I recive ssi for my social anxiety as well so I didn't know if that would play a part in it. I've never been charged with a violent crime or anything like that and I haven't been deemed as incompetent by a judge. Like I said it would stay on me at home only. I just dont want a cop to drive down the road and happen to see a pistol under my shirt and take me to jail for carrying on my familty owned property. I'm in the state of INDIANA btw. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I'm no expert on law, but I'm sure it would have to be registered in your name and you'd have to have a ccw to carry it concealed, whether it's on your property or not.

Guns dont have to be registered in the state of indiana and I'm pretty sure I dont need a ccw to carry it on my property but I'm not an expert either lol thank you for the reply

I am no expert either but I think it would have to be "transferred " to you just like if you bought a used handgun from a stranger. I dont think you can buy a handgun from and individual in Indiana without at least a purchase permit or ccw or something right?

Most state laws have the answer to your questions and carry more weight than opinions from the internet. Alabama's laws are easy to understand and straight forward. The problems arise when trying to apply the opinion of someone from another state in your decision making process so it is imperative that one understand their own state laws! This is a straight forward answer easily understood down here:

Code of Alabama § 13a-11-73 - Permit to Carry Pistol in Vehicle or Concealed on Person - Required; Possession of Unloaded Pistol in Motor Vehicle

Section 13A-11-73

Permit to carry pistol in vehicle or concealed on person - Required; possession of unloaded pistol in motor vehicle.

(a) Except on land under his or her control or in his or her own abode or his or her own fixed place of business, no person shall carry a pistol in any vehicle or concealed on or about his or her person without a permit issued under Section 13A-11-75(a)(1) or recognized under Section 13A-11-85.

(b) Except as otherwise prohibited by law, a person legally permitted to possess a pistol, but who does not possess a valid concealed weapon permit, may possess an unloaded pistol in his or her motor vehicle if the pistol is locked in a compartment or container that is in or affixed securely to the vehicle and out of reach of the driver and any passenger in the vehicle.

(Acts 1936, Ex. Sess., No. 82, p. 51; Code 1940, T. 14, §175; Acts 1947, No. 616, p. 463, §3; Acts 1951, No. 784, p. 1378; Acts 1956, 2nd Ex. Sess., No. 43, p. 336; Code 1975, §13-6-153; Act 2013-283, p. 938, §2.)

One problem sure to arise is having a LEO unfamiliar with the law trying to impose his interpretation on you. Seems to be quite a few of them around.

Based on the information posted by the OP, why would you doubt that the OP is entitled to own a firearm in Indiana?

"No permit is required to buy a handgun in Indiana. That doesn’t mean there are no other requirements though!
To buy a handgun in Indiana, you must:
Be 18 or older;
Present state ID; and
Submit to an instant background check.
It is important to keep in mind that these requirements apply when you are purchasing from a licensed firearms dealer, like your local gun shop.
However, even if you meet those requirements you might still be prohibited from owning a gun in Indiana.
You are prohibited from owning a gun if you:
Have been convicted or a felony;
Have been convicted of domestic battery;
Are a drug abuser or under the influence of a drug;
Are an alcohol abuser or are intoxicated; or
Are mentally incompetent.

If you don’t fall into any of these categories, then you’re good to go!"

No one can make the decision for the OP. We can only present available information, e.g. links to Indiana law.
