Hello I just found this place and it looks very good so far.I have a question, 16 years ago I was pulled over and I didn't know but my brother had my moms gun in a truck my family shared stuck inbetween the seets.long story short I am trying to get a ccw in jefferson co and they pulled up back in 1997 where I was pulled over in irondale and got a charge called Alabama state firearms act .So I was denied and I asked why and they said that it came up on my record. Is there anything I can do or any suggestions. My brother was killed a few years later on a motorcycle. My mom was also able to go and get a permit take a class and got her gun back a longcall time agoor it was a glock 40mm compact. But anyway now im wondering what I can do to get me a ccw. Any questions suggestions are encouraged. I work with my dad as a plumber and I would like to have protection if in a bad part of town late at night,ya know anything could happen with some of the places he and I go .sometimes I am by myself but im wondering am I screwed for something so stupid that happened so long ago. Oh I have no domestic or violent things on my record I have a few PI's that's it .like I said the worst thing they could find would be drunk in public back when I was 21 and stupid to have a smart mouth in a club and when walking to my car fussing with a guy over my girlfriend. That turned into a fight and I just got a PI public intoxicated ...
Thanks

Getting your CCW

You leave a few holes in your story. Were you convicted of the charge? If so, were you given probation? If so did you have a probation officer? If so, did you complete your probation with no issues? In most states you can appeal a denial. But being arrested and or cited for drunk in public would be reason enough for denial. But I don't know the timeline of that either. Have you had any formal gun training? So you have some bumps to iron out.

ISorry im using my phone to do this. But ok when I was pulled over they took the gun gave me if I remember correctly a ticket for the speeding and having a gun in the truck and I don't even remember having to do anything but paying the fines. like I said my mom was able to get the gun back after she went to a training program.I just got two tickets one for speeding and one for having a gun without a permit.
That's pretty much the jist of it...
As for my record It was In 1997 when I got the PI I haven't been in any kinda trouble since.Im a network admin (a computer nerd) .I have been around guns all my life .No I have not had any professional gun training. Im 36 now I have an extensive gun collection.I go to a local range a few times a month. My best friend who is a jefferson county dept lives out in blount county where we shoot as our schedules permit.
Again sorry for the spelling and grammar. I can't hardly see what im writing I will get on my computer tomorrow and go back and clean this up.I was just throwing this out here to see if anyone else has had this problem.

Well keep crying for humanity. I'm helping out one stopped up shitline at a time.I just would feel better when I go with my dad on late night calls to have protection. I don't need one while doing my business, computer repair in a bank is very safe.

Sorry for this crazy spelled post my phone took it upon itself to put the words and respell everything else crazy like I said before excuse this post's grammar as I will clean it up this evening. It is very confusing. I was just typing along and didn't even preview my post. I was sitting in the truck waiting on my dad to collect and get us out of here and get home so I wrote that question up after I found a link here asking another Alabama gun law question.(note to self, do not use my cellphone to post on a new board where noone knows me.)And looking all around for my dad to get back to the van.

One word...

"LAWYER."

You'll get a lot of opinion here...but none of it is going to help you.

If you are denied a permit because of arrests, convictions, legal issues, etc...you will need to enlist the services of a qualified attorney.

Best advice given!! You can't argue with that!!!

+2 on the lawyer. Like said above, when we were young and stupid, we didn't really realize the repercussions our actions may have in later life. Yes, I too was young and stupid once and I guess I was lucky to not have gotten caught. (didn't do anything really bad). I am now 67 with a spotless record. I guess the saying "There but for the grace of God go I." holds true for me.

The lawyer may have you jump thru a few hoops, but if it is as you said I'm sure he can rectify it all.

Good Luck.

There's an app for that. USA Carry app that is.

My Nephew got arrested convicted for Theft. He got a Lawyer and got it expunged ( if that's the word). He now can buy a gun and he has his CCW.

I agree with the lawyer to be sure, but you can always check with the agency you're trying to get the license from. Tell them your record and see if they give you the green light."

In New York, you can have a DWI and number of other things that do not qualify as "serious offenses." Generally as long as it's nothing domestic violence related or some sort of felony, you're okay.
