Gen 4 Glock 22 Recoil Spring

I know there is a similar thread on this, but I didn't want to hijack the thread since my problem isn't with jamming.

I'm not even sure if it is a problem at all yet.

I have a brand new 4 Gen Glock 22 that I bought last week. I've only put 50 rounds through it so far. In the process of removing the slide last night, I noticed that the end of the recoil spring(the end that you can see while the gun is completely assembled, underneath the barrel) wasn't sitting flush with the opening.

So, when I attempted to remove the spring, the black piece on the end was catching on the outside edge of the slide, preventing me from pulling it out. When looking at it you could clearly see that it wasn't centered in it either, leaving a small opening, or space, in the whole. The only thing we were able to do was remove the barrel from underneath the recoil spring so that we can pull the spring down, at an angle, and remove it.

Just FYI, there was a glock armorer present, and he had never seen this before.

So, we completely reassembled the slide. The recoil spring was inserted properly into the "business" end, and also into the second notch on the barrel. At this time, the "business" end of the recoil spring was sitting flush with the opening. However, as soon as it was racked back and released, the little black end of the spring went back through the hole.

I'm wondering if this is a problem? Is this normal?

I, and a bunch of other officers, have done a bunch of dry fires and simple racking to test it since. I've had the recoil and barrel just fall out as soon as the slide was off, even after ensuring the parts were inserted correctly. I've opened it up and found the little lip on the "business" end of the spring was keeping tension off the spring completely so that it wasn't even touching on the other side. I've taken the slide off and found the spring was either off-center in the lower groove, and i've even had it completely off the grooves, nearly to the wall of the slide.

I'm not really sure what to think about this. No one has seen or heard of this before. To me, it seems like there should be a small metal washer that prevents the end of the recoil spring from shoving itself through the front of the slide in this manner, but I dunno.

My biggest worry at the moment is that it will FTF or FTE. The crappy thing is that I have qualification tomorrow.

Wow! Keep us posted on this. Mine was doing this too. I'm going to look more closly with it assempled. The dealer and Glock Armorer told me that it was coming off the seat when I disassembled it.

Best regards,
Jason

I took it up to the dealer yesterday.

Before I let them see my gun, I asked to see another 4 gen 22. It was exactly the same way.

Another thing I thought was interesting was that the more I racked the slide, the less it seemed to come unseated.

I dunno. Qualified today with absolutely no problems and i'm going on 300 rounds so far.

I'll keep you posted if any problems come up.

Same problem?

Hello everyone, new to the site! I have the same thing happing with my new gen 4 Glock 22? Has anyone found out any more information yet/ Thanks!

Issued 25 Gen 4 this week to my men, each one fired 500rounds in training so far. There have been no issues.

I ended up trading my gen4 for a NIB gen3. Completed, and did very well with the OPOTA basic firearms certification last weekend :yu: I think I'll wait a bit and see how the gen4 hold's up.Thanks!

I am not a fan of the recoil spring on Gen4. I put about 200rds through my new 22 after I bought it. When I field stripped the weapon and removed the new style recoil spring assembly from the slide the larger spring came completely off the guide rod assembly and wouldn’t go back on. Upon closer inspection, the diameter of the larger spring was just wide enough to allow it to slip over the plastic end cap that was supposed to be holding it captive to the guide rod. My dealer had the assembly replaced quickly from the Glock rep but I am now less than confident to trust my life to this weapon on a daily basis.

There has been an "up grade" for recoil springs.
GEN-4 When looking at metallic disk at end of recoil spring guide.

No markings is variant #1 (G22)

0*1 G-22 Flat guide ring.

0*2 G-17 Flat guide ring.

0*3 G-23 Beveled guide ring

0*4 G-19 Beveled guide ring.

0*1 over 01 G-22 Beveled guide ring

0*2 over 01 G-17 Beveled guide ring.

It might be a good idea to get with your Glock distributor and see if your weapons have the old/orig recoil springs.
