Garage Break-ins

That's why I paid extra to put alarm sensors on my garage doors when I set up the home security system.

Garage doors have always been easy to break into. They also make locks for garage doors which seem to have gone by the wayside since garage door openers are so common any more. However, there is a lock system that works with your garage door remote:

Over 20 yrs ago, I lived in Chicago and had a 2 car garage on an alley with a 57 Chevy in it. I lost the car and a bunch of tools when someone drove a vehicle, probably a wrecker or flatbed, through one of the doors.

Garage door openers are the weak point here. If you don't have one installed and don't rely on technology to do basic operations you will not be a victim as readily.

My unattached garage sits in front of my home with the garage door facing 90 degrees left from my line of site and the man door faces the front of the house. There are no other access points. This gives me great line of sight with the security light sitting 30 feet in the air at the corner that dissects both available doors.

Locks only keep honest people honest, if someone wants in they will get in, you will only be able to slow them down. NOT STOP THEM, short of living in Fort Knox.

Thank you for the warning, OG. Just went out and tied the emergency release arm with a zip tie. You probably saved me from losing another motorcycle. I think I might owe you one.
