gander mountain

Has anyone on the forums ever traded a firearm in at Gander Mountain? I am thinking of trading in a Mossberg 535 tactical turkey 12ga for something more concealable than a doublestack 9mm. Maybe something like an LC9. Would anyone reccommend for or against Gander?

I should also add that the firearm has only had 3 rounds put through it since it was taken out of the box. It was originally purchased at Gander for $425

In any trade, you will be lucky to get $200.00 3 rounds or not...Your best bet is to try and sell it to a buddy or a friend of a friend. Gander is no better or worse as far as I know....

The short of it is...you'll ALWAYS come out short when you trade....

I was looking at the LC9 and finally bought one at a local gun shop. Gander Mnt seems to be $20 - $40 higher per gun than other shops.

Thanks for the info fellas. I was pretty weary about it to begin with so i thought i would seek the info before diving into it.

I'd never buy or trade at the Gander Mtn near us. They're outrageous on their prices and don't give anything for trades. Friends or a local pawn shop might be a better route.

Check Academy Sports if u have one around you. I picked up a bodyguard. 380 for 393.00 holster box if ammo tax tag and title! They have great prices! Sell ur shotty privately you'll get more. What are you looking to get for it? Alot of people in that price range are looking at saiga shotties.

Once had a Beretta 8000 Cougar from Gander. The front dovetail sight would not stay tight. Sent the gun back to Beretta where they put on a new slide/sight. Same problems again. gander woulod not take the gun back until I threatened to call the NYS AG to report Gander was selling guns with known safety issues. They refunded the price immediately. I don't like that store. Prices are too high.

I will never ever do any type of firearm business with Gander Mountain. That place is a rip off when it comes to guns.

When the Ruger LCR came out they wanted $590 for the .357 mag. I went to look at it at Gander Mountain. The very next day I went to my local gun store and purchased a brand new Ruger LCR .357 mag for $450 and tax. I then took my reciept and my new LCR to Gander Mountain and showed the manager my reciept and asked him why they cant do better on their gun prices. He just looked at me and said "thats a used one" I just laughed at him and left.

They are idiots when it comes to handgun prices and they refuse to budge even when presented with their competitions pricing.

Few weeks ago they had a brand new Glock 19 Gen 4 for $630. LOL i bought my Glock 19 Gen 4 from my local gun dealer for $525 without even negotiating.

Although Ive never sold a gun to them, Ive bought 3 from them and dont have any problems with them. Got my Glock 22 for $500 from them which is a good deal.

I tried it once at a gun dealer by me and was told they would only give me 60% of the whole sale price and no more.WTF? I would never trade in a gun anywhere. It is much better to sell it yourself.Same goes for a car/truck.

Gander doesn't have anything to do with manufacture pluses or minuses, they are just a high priced middle man. Don't get me wrong, I do shop there, I just don't buy firearms there. They are great if ya wanna hold a bunch of guns, yet trading in is not the best by far. I went to check the value of my customized 1911 and they told me $175 trade/sell value. I told em to shove it and carry that gun daily. Sell yer stuff outright and don't sacrifice yer trades value for an impulse buy.

In Lubbock, I can never get any help at gander. They have practically no sales staff. The ones they have are overrun w/ customers.
I like Academy well.
I buy a lot of my supplies from the range I shoot at, Rustic Range. I would rather support the local range than a big box store.
I found this out after buying a rifle from walmart. My local range may be more expensive than some box stores, but I know the people who own and run it. I've bought 2 rugers from them and they ask me when I shoot how they shot. I have never gotten that kind of service from a box store.
That's just my opinion.

The problem is not the people in the store, but the clueless folks at corporate for Gander. About a year ago they took about 70% of the smiths out of the store so no ability to get anything fixed locally but only through their few that are left - I had spent two years building a trusting relationship with the smith at Gander, bought about a dozen gun their to have that support and bam - overnight it was gone. As many have said their prices for both guns and ammo is higher than most others. I traded in a hardly used gun one time as it was the path of least resistance - took a big loss on the gun even using it for a trade on another gun they had that I wanted. Some of their use stuff is better but still more than most places. My advice is sell it privately - it is easier than you think, find a FFL that will work with you and get your new blaster on the internet at one of the more affordable places. I have done that many times and it works pretty well. This could mean the difference of $100 or more on the average gun.If you want to "fondle" ahead of time, then go to Gander or find a gun show and see how it feels. If you want to fire, go to a range with the round of choice and many will let you using your own ammo try at least a magazine of the gun of your dreams. Have done what with my XD crew several times. Above all, have fun and good luck in your journey.

You are much better off to sell the gun locally or on GunBroker than to trade it in pretty much anyplace but especially at the big name outfitters. Gander, BassPro, Cabela's all buy really low and sell high.

Our local Gander Mountains, two of them, are a mixed bag on pricing. Right now they are selling the SIG P238 at prices competitive with the lower sold prices on GunBroker. I look there as part of the shopping process but so far haven't bought a single gun there or BassPro. Bought several on sale at Cabela's.
