I use GEARCRAFT HOLSTERS and love them. Lifetime warranty and very well made. I have their IWB for a Shield, an OWB for my M&P Full Size and a bunch of mag carriers.

I have at at least 4 Alien holsters. IWB and OWB. Like them all. The iwb really balance out a larger gun such as Glock 19, Sig Legion, and 1911 which I have carried.

Haven't tried anything by Galco yet but, I really love my Alien Gear 3.0 cloak tuck. It's a good holster and reasonably priced. Plus they give you a thirty-day trial period and if you like it, they have a lifetime trade-in program with the holster shell. Buy a new gun? Sell the old one? Send in your used shell and get a new one for your new gun. All you pay for is the shipping to return your old shell.

I guess one plus between the alien gear and the galco is that Galco holsters can be bought in stores like Cabela's and Bass Pro whereas alien gear holsters have to be ordered online from alien gear.

Alien Gear just looks too bulky to me and I'm an old fart who came up on leather

Too bulky compared to what, the Galco King Tuk? They look about the same to me. If one is actually a little more bulkier than the other, I highly doubt it would be noticeable enough to make a difference.

Wouldn't wear a King Tuck either. Give me a simple Galco Combat Master pancake holster and I'm good

That's a nice holster but we're talking about Inside the Waistband, tho....

I wouldn't mine trying one of those but after a discussion about leather holsters, this image below kinda makes me a little uneasy. I don't know what the brand of it is or if the Galco above is susceptible to this or not. It's not a cheap holster so I would hope not.

Alien Gear and Galco King Tuk are practically the same design with minor differences, same goes for Crossbreed SuperTuck and MiniTuck holsters. None of them are susceptible to the problem you describe.

As for being bulky, compare these style of hybrid holsters to IWB kydex holsters and you will see a significant difference. That's why I am carrying the same NSR Tactical LLC-4 holster since summer 2015. NSR Tacrical just recently revaamped their Web site and slightly renamed their products. This would be the Link Removed now. It is made out of thick Kydex that doesn't wear out and has a leather lining on the outside for carry comfort. It has two belt loops. I added male Velcro strips on the inner side of the belt loops to match the holster with my 1.5" Rigid Cobra Duty Belt With Velcro Liner from SOE.

I carried a 1911 Officer in a King Tuk before switching to a HKvp9 in the Alien Gear Cloak Tuck. They are both comfortable but the Alien Gear backing is decidedly thicker and makes buttoning my pants tighter. It's also cheaper.

Other thoughts: I like that you can modify the cant of the Cloak Tuck, which you cannot do on the Galco. The shells are interchangeable with other pistol shells, either OWB or IWB. The shell is said to be steel reinforced, so it's unlikely to break or crack like and plastic ones I've had, and if it does, it's guaranteed for life anyway - whether my life or the company's life they don't say. The belt clips work too good. They're hard to get on and off over a thick gun belt, but I suppose that beats the alternative. I've not worn it during the summer yet but never had an issue with the leather Galco uses, so that's a wait and see. I just don't care for the thick backing, but once it's on and the pants are buttoned it's quite comfortable.

Another downside is the screws that hold the shell to the backing tend to loosen and fall out. I've never lost one, and they do send extras, but I put some blue Loktite on the threads to keep that from happening in the future.
