This is the second anti gun article I have read on the tech blog Gizmodo.
The last sentence Jamie Condliffe wrote was:

"Regardless of why it's the case, it's another great reason to clamp down on the availability of firearms."

It's practicly agrammatical as well. Frankly, I don't see the problem.

When I go forth from my home armed, I DO assume that everyone else is armed. This is without regard to whether or not I can see everyone else's hands. Like they say, concealed carry is concealed. It's just another ramification of Heinlein's Law. "An armed society is a polite society." Why is an armed society a polite society? It's not because everyone has guns, because manifestly not everyone does. It's because everyone PERCEIVES everyone else as having a gun. If you perceive everyone around you as having a gun, are you going to be more assholish or more polite to everyone around you?

If anything, this study mitigates for removing guns from cops. Too many innocent children with toy guns and innocent adults with remote controls are murdered in the line of duty by cops. What are cops holding when they perform these murders? GUNS! Therefore, according to this study, the holding of the gun is what predisposed these cops to make the judgement call that the cell phone or the toy gun are real guns, and then to overreact. The solution is obvious, disarm all police across the country.

The problem with the article and findings from NDU is who are the test subjects? Are they trained in body language? Are they ordinary citizens who are more alarmed at the prospect of confronting a person who might be considered a threat? Too many holes in the logic. Everything is important when dealing with people and personalities. This study shows nothing more than knee-jerk reactions to an aggressive stance on gun attitudes. When I'm holding my gun, my awareness goes up. If I holster my weapon, I'm still on alert. I am a polite person until it's time to not be polite. Treating one another with respect by default makes society a better place to live. It is unfortunate that there are those who seek to do harm for personal gain and that is why we carry.

The most effective way to defend against probable violence, is the probability of an equally or more violent defense. The most effective method of defense against actual violence is greater violence. Cops are nothing but a displacement of personal responsibility for one's own safety onto some guy who will accept pay for (allegedly) taking the risks of the citizen to track down criminals and provide justice - even though they won't take any risk to protect you because it's not in their job procedures. But he's using a gun and the threat of a sanctioned killing to bring that guy into custody. You risk getting killed or maimed or whatever, while hoping that the cops will catch this guy. So by depending on cops, you sanction 'paid violence on your behalf' when you should be applying that principle yourself, and THAT is the personally responsible way to do it.

Just another stupid university study that was biased to prove a point and not to determine a true social issue bounced against any statistical facts or data. I can only assume that if I was part of this study and was looking at the photos while holding a banana, I would assume that those in the photo are holding one as well. Sigh...more paranoia.

Gizmodo is usually a good site but you have to remember that it IS a 'techie site' and when 99% of techies talk about anything out of their field of experience, they are clueless, liberal, and as dumb as a post.

Another thought: If the anti-gunners want to eliminate weapons from citizens, we all need to outlaw cars/motorized vehicles, shovels (and axes, pickaxes, hoes, etc), screwdrivers (hammers, wrenches, etc), candlesticks, chairs, blah, blah, blah. I think that these anti-gunners need to have that concept shoved in their faces, because, to us, taking away guns is just as ridiculous..... However, try getting that said on any TV show, blog (that is not our own people), or radio show. Anyone have any ideas?
