G&A Ranks the Best States for Gun Owners in 2013

Yeah! Number 8! But the Kansas House just passed some new anti-gun-control laws that now go to the Senate. So we may move UP! But I was surprised to see Oklahoma so low. What's going on there?

My state was No. 7 but we will be getting better! There is legislation pending to make us a "Shall Issue" state which may help some but I haven't had trouble with "May Issue" in over 50 years.

Mine is #31. But class 3/NFA is 10. Castle Doc and Open Carry would fix most of that. Something we're working on. Have to get rid of Governor Beebe and Speaker Carter to get us open carry. Hopefully in 2014 when Gov term ends thing will look up for us.

I think my home state of Tennessee kinda got the shaft in this ranking at #23, apparently because of areas where local law might preempt state law--carry may not be allowed in certain city parks, depending on the city, however, carry is permitted in all state-run parks; and also certain prohibitions on where you can carry-- there is no campus carry; and until today (3/15/13) property owners could prohibit you from carrying in parking lots-- as of today the Governor signed a bill eliminating the parking lot prohibition for HCP holders.

However, Tennessee's permit is honored by more states than any other (39 including Tennessee itself) and it honors permits from all states except Vermont (only because Vermont doesn't require a permit), Illinois (no permits to begin with) and DC (who cares). This enhanced reciprocity allows me to carry in all but the "bluest" of blue states, provided that I follow the appropriate laws in each jurisdiction.

Oklahoma 30? We are a shall issue state with open or conceal carry. We have the castle doctrine, stand your ground you do not have to retreat. You can use force at your home, auto or business. There are laws to protect us from any repricutions from the use of deadly force. They are passing a bill to make it illegal to enforce any kind of federal gun bans, we will not have to adhere to any federal gun ban. Our governor Mary Fallin even has her conceal carry permit. The only thing that is a pain in the ass is the wait time for your conceal license, they are overwhelmed at the OSBI trying to get these done. I don't know why we would not be at least in the top 10.

No surprise my state ranks 43.
Soon they will want same sex marriage for God knows what…well sex I guess, oopps to late.
Next maybe the Free State will want to set the criminals free or even abolish the death penalty for those who murder our families.
The following is from one of the good guys, He couldn’t even get it through for double murder.

Dear Constituent,
Thank you for contacting the office. I really appreciate your views and opinions on all issues.
Last Friday in the Judiciary Committee we dealt with death penalty repeal. I voted against the bill and offered an amendment to which would have allowed prosecutors to seek the death penalty in the case of a double murder.
Although I am offended by people being falsely accused I believe the current DNA standards and conviction standards eliminate the likelihood that someone will be falsely convicted.
The loss of a family member is a tough occasion and the victim and family deserve justice.
Because of the nature of some these horrific crimes, I believe that the death penalty is an appropriate punishment as well as an effective deterrent for crime. If we get rid of the death penalty what is the penalty for prisoners who murder other prisoners or correctional officers?
Since the death penalty helps prosecutors and police I voted NO on the repeal.
Thank you for contacting my office and have a great day.

My Dear Constituent,
Today is a sad day in Maryland history. Despite that there are mass murders, serial rapists and individuals serving multiple life sentences costing the state $40,000 a year, the Maryland General Assembly has repealed the death penalty. I do not understand how Governor O’Malley could on one hand sit in front of me in Judiciary Committee and lambast the State for not having the authority to kill convicted felons, and on the other hand defend the right to murder innocent, unborn children. I will always stand up for the vulnerable – never criminals. This is a sad day.
With a heavy heart,
Your Delegate and Servant Glen Glass

A 43 ranking…Disgraceful. The 3 counties that control our state would rank at about 61. My county would be around 5. Lord help us!

I thought my state would be in the top 10 but I was wrong. I have to accept #20 spot. PA gotta do better but with a supposed anti-gun attorney general at the helm and a republican to boot things could get interesting. Thankfully we have a pro-gun ex-sheriff as a governor.

I was surprised Oregon ranked higher than Idaho. We have some left wing nut jobs working hard to change that status.

I don't think they figured in that Oklahoma is now Open Carry... but maybe they did, and I didn't catch the other parameters...
