Funny night encounter

Long time visitor here, but just signed up tonight. GREAT FORUM!

Anyhow, tonight I went for a walk/hike through a park that has access to alot of side streets.
I saw a corner store up through the woods and took the nearest side street and headed there for a coffee.
As I got close an LEO pulled up in his car and stopped. Asked me where I was from (guess he knew I wasn't from that area) and where I was going.
I told him and he says "Not a real safe neighborhood to be strolling through in the dark, what are you going to do if somebody comes up and tries something"
My answer "I have my cell phone so I can call them an ambulance"
He asked what I meant, and I explained that I had an LTCF/permit, my fully loaded 9mm, a fully loaded .380 LCP, a tacticle pen, a semi large pocket knife, and mace.
He laughed and told me to go ahead and to wait by the body for him later...

Good for a giggle, nice guy actually.

I like your response. I have to remember it as I normally have similar arsenal on my outings. PO's around here are good guys too and would expect similar reply from them.

I went out shopping tonight. I carried a 9mm, w/one in the chamber, can of mace, pepper spray "pistol, two shot, fires up to 13 ft, knife with assisted opening blade, and ten years of martial arts training and competitive ju jitsu competition. Unfortunately, I was not accosted by a drug crazed thug. DAMMIT!

And you're not likely to be. They look for people who look and walk like a victim.

Only a fool or someone who has not been in combat craves it. I have similar training and similar tools at my disposal, but the last thing i want to do is have to defend myself. I guess its just me. But please reconsider why you practice martial arts if you are out looking for trouble.

To Austin......my post was entirely in jest. I have been in combat (Vietnam, 42nd IPSD, 101st Airborne Division, walked point for line units with my German shepherd, Mr. Buck). You can find pictures of us on the 42nd's webpage. I have also been the intended target of a mugging that was highly unsuccessful for the perpetrator. I don't "look" for trouble but I sincerely "watch" for trouble by remaining "situationally aware" AT ALL TIMES. And while my post was in jest, I do normally carry the means to repel unwanted advances. At the tender age of 65, and being in excellent shape from having invested many hours of physical conditioning, I still doubt that I could overcome a younger, larger, ill intending person or persons, therefore I do carry items of protection designed to, hopefully, remove me from a harmful situation intact and unharmed. And lastly, I have no training in martial arts and the above post of mine was totally tongue in cheek. Have a nice day, and thank you for giving me your advice/opinion. I will definitely "reconsider" my actions.

In the "highly acclaimed" movie "Roadhouse" Patrick Swayze tells the movies cutie that those that come looking for trouble are not a problem for those that are prepared for trouble. I too know Kung fu and 13 other Chineses fighting words.q
