Front Sight

Hello all!
I am considering buying a Ruger LCR. The one thing I did not like is that the front sight is black and disappears against a dark target. I was doing some research online into optional front sights and I saw a comment about only using the front sight when shooting in an emergency situation rather than trying to line up the front and rear sights. (The LCR does not really have a traditional rear sight, but this comment was not just about the LCR. It was about handguns in general) I have heard this before, but don't understand it. Is it because the emergency situations typically take place at close range so the elevation is affected minimally by focusing only on the front sight?

Can anyone educate me on the concept?

Thanks!

I think you're partly correct. In most emergency encounters the distances are fairly short. I think the greater point they're trying to illustrate though is time. For some inexperienced shooters aligning the sights quickly can be difficult. And at close enough ranges just looking down the spine of the gun at the front sight, like a shotgun bead sight, can work in an emergency situation. However, I feel too many people use this as a crutch so they don't have to practice their draw technique. Same thing with laser sights. I refuse to let anyone I'm teaching to shoot practice with a laser on their weapon. They become too dependent on it. Practice doesn't make perfect. Perfect practice makes perfect. Always train how you fight.

Thanks jcreek!

I appreciate the response. If I train how I fight, I will be getting my cardio in because I usually run!!! Ha Ha! All kidding aside, I understand and appreciate your point.
